With the XE coming out of warranty and people starting to use independents it could be good to get feedback and recommendations.
Please post details of any independents you can recommend.
Details of prices and a link to their websites would be good.
Also if they can update the Jaguar online service history which is still important for some although others are happy with paperwork.

Just need to make sure they do use genuine Jaguar parts. I colleague of mine used a garage that did not use the specified Jaguar oil. Unfortunately the engine blew and was not covered by warranty! This was several years ago now so I'm sure these specialist garages use all the genuine parts. Worth a check though.

Mmm. Jaguar dealer local to me actually put the incorrect oil in my X Type auto with DPF.
There again the owners manual even specified the wrong type as well. (It required low sap oil to a certain spec)

Wow, thanks for all the comments Guys. I will definitely make sure that genuine Jaguar parts are used. Have already bought the correct oil ready as I am going to change my oil at the year point as I do relatively low miles. The only other concern I would have is whether my local Guy can in some way update the electronic service history for the car? May be it will be ok to just have receipts etc.

Thanks all
Mark

The time came for my XE Sport 240 to have its' 4yr/40k mile service. Car is under a two year used Jaguar warranty so first visited the main dealers.

It is a major service, yet only comprises changing the oil, air and cabin pollen fillers, the oil and brake fluid. Plus checks all over the car.

Main dealers near me Slough/Amersham/Ascot/Acton quoted between £460 and £560. Not sure these quotes included brake fluid change as Topix service schedule says only to check brake fluid level in master cylinder.

Have used independents for many years and found a Jaguar specialist not too far from me. Powerbell in Taplow (www.powerbell.co.uk).

Their quote, using Jaguar consumables was £291.

I booked in and they did the service whilst I waited in a coffee shop down the road for an hour and a half.

Very routine, Topix all up to date.

Will definitely use them again.

I can highly highly recommend Tom @ TL Jaguar - https://www.tomlenthall.co.uk/ near Wokingham

Took my XKR to him for 10+ years including servicing, diagnostics and performance upgrades. He's an ex-Jaguar Master technician and does everything from modern stuff to E-types/original XKs (he also races so he knows how to do performance tuning, but is a BAD influence on the wallet!). I had tried another indy in the past near Andover, but had a couple of bad experiences.

Tom on the other hand, is great and wouldn't take my Jags anywhere else once out of warranty... He will also recommend whether you need to use gen Jag parts or if aftermarket/breakers stuff is as good/better & cheaper, as appropriate.

Yesterday I had my 40,000 mile service completed by AJW based in Newcastle under Lyme. I'm very happy with the all aspects of the service provided and will use them again.

I contacted the Jaguar dealers in my local area and the price for the service varied from £420 to £513. AWJ quoted £229 without having the air filter changed. The service took under 2 hours to complete and they have a very comfy sofa and nice coffee while you are waiting.

Topix was updated and showing on the Jaguar app by the time I got home.

I'm glad to hear that as mine is booked with them in a fortnight for a wheel bearing and MOT. First time I've used them, ex Rybrook.

It is great to hear that some of the independents used by other posters have updated Topix straight away. When I had my 2 year service at the main dealers I had bought the car from. It took several phone calls and several weeks for them to get it done. I am sure an independent would have been cheaper too.

I'll be trying out Tom Lenthall Limited in Finchampstead (Berkshire) in April. For my #4 service, they're £200 cheaper than Jaguar.

Anyone tried them?
Read 5 posts up from yours! Highly recommended...

Just wanted to close the loop on Tom Lenthall Limited in Finchampstead...
Can't recommend them enough.
Friendly, informative service. My local official Jag service centre don't usually give much time on choices, but Adam and Tom both answered my questions with simple and friendly advice
Adam also gave me a little tour of what they had in the garage, some serious classics in there.

Had two advisory's and they talked me through various options and the pros/cons of each.

Will be putting all future services/work needed through them.

They also have an agreement with Enterprise Cars in Wokingham with preferrential rates for hire - they're a great team too. Told me to drop the car off at Tom Lenthall Limited, who were fine with that, and called the next day to say rental all completed.

Hi all, just got my jAG XE R Sport back from Farriers Auto of Ratby, Leics folllowing 4 Year Main Service plus MOT. All Good Service to include all Jg spec items, oil ect i am very happy with the personal attention and customer service from Farriers boss and his team. Got fed up with indifferent experience from the main dealer, whilst paying top dollar for being treated like a cash machine!. I cant see me returning to a main dealer any time soon!. Farriers are also going to try to apply the latest satnav maps,October 2019,if I decide to go ahead. Just see the cost is justfied!.so awaiting with interest,as I know many owners seem to be having difficulties getting the updates!. Any way,the car passed MOT, and is going like a train, Happy Cat. Safe motoring!. Derek Mitchell, XE R.Sport 240 petrol,2016 in Blue fire paint, and a few toys.

Got the car back from Parkside Garage specialising mainly in RR and Jags.

Can't recommend them enough. Car was dropped at 10am, taken straight into the workshop. Was given a BMW courtesy car too.

I opted for the 5 year service. All filters, including pollen and oil changed, everything checked and topped up. I have a dashcam which runs all the time so knew what was going on especially when it comes to the cabin filter as we know how much of a pain it is to get to!

Even left their screenwash bottle in the car as it's included in the service but I had recently topped it up.

Had a few issues already such as the low washer fluid light despite holding enough fluid and no leaks and a leaking air con which I knew about

The owner of the garage, very knowledgeable individual was quick to tell me that the car is fine. Mentioned the washer sensor needs replacing which is quite cheap at around £30 for the part and the rear brake discs are scored but it's quite common to jags in general. Also mentioned he would carry out a full nitrogen test to see whether the condenser or pipe is leaking at my convenience.

Definitely knows his stuff. Makes all the difference I think working on these cars often!

My XE is due for its yearly service in March. Phoned my local Jaguar Dealership in Watford. They have given me a quote of £735.00!!! I have emailed "Ultimate Cats" in Edgware and "Swallows" in Ruislip and await there replies. Will update here when I have replies with prices. Last year I paid just over £600 from the Dealership in Hatfeld where I purchased the car. I thought this price was well over the top and vowed not to go back to them. Especially as they kept me waiting 1.5 hours for the car to be ready. This was after they sent me a text to say it was ready for collection. It can only get better-Can it?

If you don't mind an hour each way from Watford, I can highly recommend TL Jaguar (independent specialists) as mentioned above. Might be a little far perhaps but I used to take my XKR to them on a regular basis... Depends how much you need doing but if it's a significant amount of work, eg brakes etc as well as an oil/filter change, it's probably worth the effort... Tom is a top guy, (and an ex-Jaguar master technician) and you won't get ripped off either. Think they offer some form of hire car now too, but I used to drop mine off and catch the train from the nearby station... I have no business interest in TL Jaguar, but I am super picky as to who I let work on my car (I do some of my own stuff too, but don't have time to do the bigger jobs) and Tom is one to trust...

+1 for Tom Lenthall.

Take a look at their Facebook page to see the quality of work they do: https://www.facebook.com/TomLenthallLtd

I use them for 3 reasons. Firstly they are only 5 miles from me. Secondly they are very good. Thirdly I get to wander round the workshop and dribble all over the nice Jaguars :D

Thanks for your reply. Tom Lenthall looks great but might be a bit further than I would like to travel in these times of Covid. Hopefully I will get replies from the two Independents nearer to me and their costs will not be sky high. The XE passed its MOT 4 weeks ago with no problems so should only be the standard yearly service. Car has only done 13000 miles and only about 800 miles since last service due to Covid so shouldn't be any problems.

I can recommend StevenagePrestige https://www.stevenageprestige.co.uk/
These are the people who fixed my Telematics problem in my other post. They are 2 guys who are Jaguar Master Technicians and started the business after leaving a main dealer. Friendly people, very knowledgable with all the kit. Just 2 drawbacks;
1. No courtesy cars but there is Enterprise Car Rental next door.
2. Not recognised by Jaguar. Here's what Jagcrc said about them
Stevenage Prestige are unfortunately not an Approve Jaguar Retailer, we will be unable to accept their diagnoses or repairs as they are an independent repairer.
Regarding servicing, see another of my posts where I used KwikFit to supply and change the oil and filter for £65 after discount and I changed the cabin filter and drained the fuel filter myself.
Will be doing it all again after 1900 miles as the warning has just appeared.
