Android broken bluetooth again?

I've just picked up my XE 2.0 Portfolio on the 16th of this month, but the bluetooth issues are driving me MAD. It appeared to be fine all Saturday, but then I updated the software on my phone on the Saturday night, and now I'm plagued by constant disconnects. I've got a Samsung S9+, Android Version 9, and the issue sounds very much like what happened in an update of Android 7.

Just want to know if anyone else has upgraded to Android 9 and is having this issue?

Hi,
yes exactly the same, had no problems at all with my S9 until the update to pie. Now totally unusable, disconnects/re-connects all the time - can't make calls in the car now. Does the same in our other car, so definitely the phone. Just waiting now for a new update to fix it!

There'a post in another thread with a fix that might work until you can get an update. Sadly I didn't have that option under developer settings on my Sony phone, but you might be luckier.

Hi,

I've got a Nexus 5X and had exactly the same issue. Looking on an Android forum its almost certainly the updates not the car.... One solution that seems to have worked for many people is to go into the developer settings on your phone;

- Go to settings.
- Then System
- Then "About Phone"
- On "Build number" tap it 7 times and you enter "developer mode"
- Go back a screen to "System" and you should see "{ } Developer options" - tap that
- Scroll down to "Bluetooth AVRCP Version" - firstly try changing it to 1.3 (that seems to be the most compatible)
- Now reboot the phone and try in the car.
- If you still have problems try the different versions of AVRCP.

- If you still have problems make sure the next setting down "Bluetooth Audio Codec" is set to "SBC" as this can also cause an issue.

Hope that helps.

I've changed the settings back down to 1.3 and that did not fix it unfortunately.

I think it may just be an issue with the Samsung release of Pie, or something similar across certain brands.

It's a question of bothering to downgrade to 8.X or waiting until Samsung release a fix... Annoying!

I have no issues with my S7 Edge. I've got Android 8.0.0 with Samsung Experience 9.0. AVRCP is set to 1.4 (with 1.5 and 1.6 as options), and SBC is selected for the Bluetooth Audio Codec.

If I see an update to Android 9.0, I think I'll decline it.

Same issue with my S9+. Connects to my wife's Volvo XC60 with no issues, but won't to the Jaguar. My work phone (Samsung S8 works perfectly) but the S9+ won't do calls. Holds a connection perfectly if only streaming music, but try to connect for phone and the system goes nuts.

Not sure if this will help but here are the versions of both my Jag software and android (v9).

Bluetooth works perfectly for music, phone etc. No cutouts or dropping of connection. The android update I only applied on Wednesday last. The Jag software is on my new MY19 XE.

excuse my ignorance but how do i check software updates (definitely non techie please!)
In non techie language, don't worry about it.
At some stage in the future, Jaguar will be able to send software updates over the air to the cars.
It isn't happening at the moment and software updates are only to fix problems anyway.
So "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
:D

On the phone only,go to settings, then system, about device, software updates, check auto updates is enabled. On the car forget it as only the top range Infotainment system has an update facility that I happened to stumble across yesterday. Phils advice is best for the car.

Yep, I got this updating to Samsung One UI (Android 9 Pie) last week, just as I was really getting into audiobooks whilst driving as well :( Am thinking it might be better just to wait for an update as opposed to wind back the Android version. Back to DAB it is then.

Looks like they acknowledged the issue on Friday on that thread (thanks to whoever posted the link to that discussion!)

Hi all.

We've let our developers know about this one. They've got back to us today, and advised that as there's a range of Bluetooth issues/symptoms going on, they want to more closely examine each one individually so they can produce a fix for you as quickly as possible.

The more info they've got from folks experiencing any of the issues the better for that. So if you've not done so already, can you guys send error reports with log files via the Samsung Members app as soon as the issue occurs for you?

(How to send an error report with log files: Samsung Members app > Get Help > Send Feedback > Error Reports > [select error type] > attach a description and tick 'send system log data' > Send.)

On my old car where I did have a problem I was thinking or resetting my phone back to an earlier version but this is a big job even for someone who works in IT (as I do)! So agree that if things are messing around it's best to just wait frustrating as it is. This really is an Android issue and not JLR. No car manufacturer can be expected to keep up with phone updates on every make and model.

Unfortunately none of the above fixed my issues but when messing around found that the SmartThings App was my issue on Samsung and seems to block the connection for contacts and using the Bluetooth feature in my Jaguar XE.

As soon as I removed the SmartThings App, my phone instantly asked for access to my phones contacts to connect properly and I haven't had an issue since.

I hope this works for others.

Sounds like a common issue. I was able to connect my Samsung S8 running version seamlessly for both music and phone. As soon as my phone upgraded to version 9, I started having bluetooth issues. The connection works initially after starting, but then bluetooth switches to the last used media, usually DAB. When I go to system->bluetooth, the check box is off. In moments it will re-appear, then after a couple more minutes, the option to use it as a source appears once more. This is a constant cycle. The only way to have media played is to disconnect the car from the phone, leaving the connection to music on. This isn't an option for most people. My phone works perfectly in other cars I have tried, Fords, VWs, Mercs etc., so is a Jaguar issue specifically with Android 9 devices.
