I've recently bought a 2017 XE R-Sport in dark grey. It has really nice 19" black alloys and I'm very tempted to paint the callipers red (creative I know  ) to match the red centre badge.
I'm just wondering what people think of this aesthetically? I've asked my friends and colleagues and had mixed answers - some saying it would look nice and sporty, others saying it's too much of a 'classy' car to be messing with bright calipers
Ah the old question. To paint them or not to paint them and if you paint them, what colour should they be? If it floats your boat, paint them. Personally I think it looks a bit naff but then it would be a dull old world if we all liked the same thing. Easy enough to do so if you like the look of it go ahead and get the brushes out.
My car is a MY20 in Carpathian Grey and I added the option of the larger discs with red brake callipers. Although I don't have black wheels, I think they really do look good and I'm so glad I opted for them.
I like red painted calipers, I have on both my Jags (black venoms on the XE, graphite Vorsteiner VF103 on the F Type) and actually I am over 50. It would be a nice flash of colour against the grey car, also they do look great where you have black wheels which can look blobby especially if they have thick spokes, and need something to break them up.
I had the calipers painted on one of my XFs by the tyre shop guys with caliper paint, that worked fine but doesnt look as good as powdercoating. I had my grey calipers on the XKR painted red with the G2 caliper paint system which is meant to be great. It was fine as well, maybe it would work better there if you can source it in the UK as when I bought it in they removed the coating bottle probably because of flammability concerns.
Personally I would get a tradie to do it, though plenty of people do it themselves with great results.
I am an old fogey and think they should be painted. They just look so much cleaner. Thinking of doing mine but its a time consuming job to do it properly.
Go for it.
I was thinking about doing mine but was thinking of doing the them dark blue like the colour of the car.
Having seen a picture of some rusty calipers on this forum I think it is a good idea to paint them as soon as possible.
Spraying them a non standout colour like silver would be a big improvement on rusty calipers.
After reading various helpful posts on here, I decided to paint my very rusty callipers with hammerite hammered silver. Did not take calipers off though.
Very smart. I am sufficiently inspired to tackle mine now
