Chip in paintwork

I've just descovered a big chip in the paintwork on the passenger door of my new xe, 19 plate less than 900 miles.
It's about a centimeters and down to the primer. I have no idea how it's happened, if someone ad opens their door on it hard enough to do that I would expect a dint. And doubt a stone chip would be that bad. Had a c class for 6 years and never had anything like that happen, probably just dumb luck but Is there anything I can do?

had exactly the same one mine on same door, from a Landrover owner not taking care, I have paintwork insurance, so had the chip repair people fix, I presume the door is strong enough in this area to not dent, I have a tiny ding on rear passenger door, which hasn't damaged paint but you can see ding in certain lights, and from certain angles.

Some kind soul in a multi storey has opened their door and dinked my drivers door on the crease just below the door handle.

Are these fixable by your 'dents away' type bloke or are the doors aluminium where such things can't be massaged out ?

Typical it would be the mint side and not the other side which still has a six foot gouge along it from some mindless vandal with what must've been a particularly mean screwdriver.....

Usually, but as always 'ask'. A smaller bodyshop is sometimes more cost effective than the 'roll up and do it on your drive type blokey' though of course they may take a little longer (not necessarily a bad thing). Get the whole thing estimated at the same time, that will also save money. If it's still too much to bear then you can always restrict the job to the required bit.

The doors are steel and dents can usually be fixed by PDR (paintless dent repair) people.

Thanks chaps for the replies. If steel then should be fine. Hopefully !
I had 2 dents removed from the crease line as it's the first point of contact on the steel doors (why rubber strips were removed I've no idea). Professional PDR man removed 2 dents in 3 minutes and you look along the crease line and can't see where the dents where.
The bowing out of the XE doors and the cars width lends them to get hit more than most cars.
Most English car parks are marked out for cars sized in the 1970's and 80's.
Today's VW Polo is larger than the original Golf, most manufactures ranges have grown physical footprint size. A Ford Mondeo is now larger than a Granada!

And the car park spaces are only big enough for an original BMC real Mini :D
