So today I had a really relaxing drive. It averaged at 48 miles per hour and achieved 47mpg (UK MPG) In a 25t Ingenium.

I have also had 46mpg over an 80 mile drive through the welsh mountain roads and shropshire roads just keeping up with the usual traffic and having a bit of fun whenever I got the space ahead of me.

What have you achieved with what engines? :D

My best to date was the week after I got the car. Driving up the M6 to Manchester we were stuck in the average speed check area north of Stafford pretty much all the way t o the Manchester turn off. With an average speed of 48 mph we averaged 59.8 mpg over 85.6 miles - not seen anything like that since.

Best way to take a long term average is to record mileage and the number of litres bought over a long period. in my first £10k miles, the car has averaged 41.69mpg, which to be honest, i thought was disappointing. Prior to the XE and by way of a comparison, i had an F-Pace 2.0d (180). For its first 10k miles, it averaged 42.04 mpg; over 3 years and 72,000 miles, it averaged 42.22mpg. I expected the XE to be much better than this.

Well I'm happy with the economy I've achieved. Final segment was Oxfordshire to South London 79 miles at an average of 42mph and 39.6mpg. This segment had a bit more fun (full tank!) but also traffic, roadworks, M25 and urban roads. This all was with 3 people in the car and another 100kg or so of luggage. Not too shabby! :)

My XE is AWD with the 2 litre 200PS diesel engine, and just like my two previous cars, (XJs X350 model), I just let the trip counter run so I get a good idea of overall fuel consumption over the months. I have never bettered 46 mpg, and I don't do a lot of short journeys either, although inevitably I have to do some. I think the AWD does affect fuel consumption, even though the front drive wheels are not powered all that often, so it must just be the drag of the extra gear train.
