Re: Winter tyres

Many years ago (before the rise of the 4x4) I was driving home from work on a snowy day in my winter tyre shod C-Class. At one point I was in a long queue approaching some traffic lights. Off to my left was a street that avoided the lights. It was quite steep, and the snow was virgin. I went up it w...

Re: Winter tyres

I live at the bottom of a steep hill. The only way out of my street is up. After that, the streets are gritted. In my Mercs, with winter tyres and a paving slab I've sometimes been the only car out of the street. I'll be having a daily appointment throughout January and February, so I'll need to be ...

Re: Winter tyres

This thread has cost me a lot of money. It focused my mind on the coming season, and I initially went onto Black Circles simply to convince myself that Cross Climates were too expensive. I ended up pressing the button. I'll either try and sell the Dunlops, or store them in a corner of the garage, ju...

Re: Winter tyres

Time was when most tyres were made for all year round use. But then the car manufacturers wanted to boast about their vehicles' fuel economy, and got together with the tyre manufacturers to produce tyres with less rolling resistance. Hence "summer tyres". Winter tyres are not just for snow and ice, ...

Re: The complimentary upgrade

Wow! not heard that happen before. Mine failed the first time, but did it the next day. I assume they are lending you a courtesy car while they fix it. What model/year is it? It's an 18, 2l petrol Portfolio. They've offered a courtesy car, but I don't need one as I'll not be driving for a few weeks...

The complimentary upgrade

I was delighted to see earlier posts on this, and booked my car in for it. Unfortunately the dealership's computer crashed while upgrading my system today, and fried my computer module. The dealer is not sure how long it might take to get a new module. Does anyone have any idea how long the wait mig...

Re: sat nav must think my XE is a tractor

John, I think you may have misunderstood my attempt at humour. I just don't like sat navs as I have had 2 cars with them installed and both leave something to be desired. I am old school and plan my journies by maps. I probably go wrong a lot less than the sat nave routes. I'm with you on this one ...

Perhaps unfair, but my car has mirrors installed that allow me to see what's behind me as I reverse..
Mine too.

Re: Remote start - moving off

The remote start on my car will only work when the car is locked and all windows closed. When I unlock it the engine turns off and the car needs restarting. That's a sensible precaution to my way of thinking.

Welcome aboard!

It's just the passenger mirror that dips on reverse, this can be enabled or not in the settings.
Whereabouts in settings is it to be found?
