Re: 20" Propellers different tyre sizes than factory ???

Yes, I think you've got to go to 45 or even higher aspect ratio to give some protection of the wheels against pothole damage. An additional benefit of doing so is a quieter ride, but I agree smaller wheels/bigger tyres don't look so good - or is that just a fashion that we've all become accustomed t...

Re: DA Polishers - Any Advice?

I've always been a great believer in DIY and have done most work on cars over the years, including rebuilding engines. Normally I've either been able to practice and perfect skills on things that don't matter too much if I get it wrong the first time, or whatever I got wrong was reasonably easy to r...

Re: Spinning locking wheel nut - removal tips?

Afternoon all, I've had my locking wheel key break, the interior ring has broken away from the out shell and fallen to pieces (I'm sure there is a reason the key is made in two parts rather than as one but I can't think of one personally!). I took it down to Jaguar and of course they don't make the...

Re: DA Polishers - Any Advice?

I've looked into polishing by machine a few times and always backed off, I came to the conclusion it's best left to the pro's. I'm extremely careful cleaning my car (it's black - snow foam regime etc.) and however hard and careful you are there will always be some light 'marring' on the top coat, a...

Re: DA Polishers - Any Advice?

I bought a polisher several years back and found it to be cumbersome. It was meant as an amateur tool. The better more expensive ones are very good but they have to be used very carefully. My choice is elbow grease, 8 hour labour intensive. First I hose to get off the gritty bits, snow foam, wash a...

Re: Emergency Brake Assist

Most of these safety "features" have to be on by default to allow the manufacturers to get high safety ratings. I understand that the Honda Jazz now always puts Lane Keep Assist on by default and turning it off is a two stage process delving into the menus on the touch screen. This enabled Honda to ...

Re: What’s that belt on the front of the engine when you look into the bay?

I think the only belt at the front of the engine is indeed the serpentine belt, which (I think) drives the water pump, the alternator and the air conditioning pump. So if this belt snaps you'll stop these items rotating. The most serious is the water pump which, if not operating, will quickly lead t...

Re: Puncture in rear tyre

A trick often used by tyre dealers is to say they'll need to take the tyre off the wheel to properly inspect the damage and then, once that is done, they tell you the tyre isn't repairable. You are then pretty much forced to buy a new tyre from them at whatever price they quote - otherwise you're l...

Re: T4N4709 or T4N20453 XE roof bars

I recall a thread on here about how some XE roof bars became detached at speed and the bars and load on them ended up on the road. Perhaps the new design was to fix this problem?
