Many thanks Chris, making more sense now. Guess the initial concern about putting a cooler in such a vulnerable location is still just that. I should have thought most cars at sometime or another are going to grind their undersides but perhaps there simply isn't enough room in the engine bay to hous...

I'm still confused Paul, why would the diesel fuel be hot in the first place unless there is a mechanism for it to be heated before it reaches the engine. The only thing I can think of is that re-circulating fuel on a flow and return basis can create heat from the pump especially when the pump is by...

Looking at the workshop manual it does appear as if it is a diesel fuel cooler. Why would you cool diesel fuel? Seems the ATF cooler is nearer the front of the car as per the following detail item 9:

I honestly believed that was the ATF cooler. I can't understand why you would have a cooler on diesel fuel :?

Good to hear it's in hand. Have to say the ATF cooler is somewhat exposed and I'm surprised others haven't raised concerns about its location.
Let's hope the fix is straightforward and doesn't bash the wallet too much.

Feel for you but these things happen from time to time. Hard to tell from the photo but it looks as if you had a bit of luck and if I'm visualising correctly I think the atf cooler looks undamaged. As for the plastic parts then I suspect your dealer will order and fit. I would also imagine the sill ...
