Re: RIP Murray Walker

Yes, very sad news indeed. He really was the voice of motorsport for so many, definitely the end of an era.

Re: Can rear wheel alignment be adjusted?

It's not actually that adjustable - only for tow front and rear. I do all the geometry on my cars and was quite disappointed to find I couldn't adjust the castor/camber on the front, as by default it's a very mild setup and prone to wearing the outside shoulders. A set of H&R lowering springs has r...

Today's listening:

I found it considerably reduced my tolerance of retarded drivers.

Re: Made In Britain - New ITV Show

Yep, I've been watching that series since it started. I like to buy British, but with no six pot saloon about, Jag dealer service so poor and F Type out of budget, I'll probably not buy British next time round. That's a shame :( I do wish they had put the 6 cylinder in the XF or something. Or poten...

Re: Can I ask a favour please?

I've got no problems understanding how the system works, nor what is normal for the XE. It's a pretty straightforward system. What I did do, before taking the car away from the main dealers today, was to get them to try the pedals of two other XEs, one that had been stood unused for some time due to...

Re: Can I ask a favour please?

The Jaguar service centre is part of a Range Rover dealership and are authorised to carry out Jaguar warranty work. I'm writing to Jaguar to see what they suggest.

Re: Can I ask a favour please?

Just thinking a bit more on this one......... Assuming there is a one-way valve to trap vacuum in the system, on engine shut-down the vac pump stops pumping leaving trapped vacuum in the pipes. So if the foot-brake is now applied, (or even before it), on release this will allow air into the system ...

Re: Can I ask a favour please?

All that the vac pump is doing is replacing the "supply" of vacuum using a pipe to the inlet manifold, with an engine driven pump. On either system you would expect there to be a stop valve on the vac line from the pump to stop loss of vacuum when the engine stops. There is usually also a vacuum re...

Re: Can I ask a favour please?

I guess the problem for me is being a bit of an old hand at fixing, building, working on cars, is that the initial diagnostic process is virtually unconscious. Because the understanding of how these systems work is inherent, I find it very easy to narrow down where to look. The vacuum system is work...
