Hi,

My first diesel and first XE (MY15 37450 miles), which on the whole I have been enjoying for 2 months (about 500 miles), having moved from petrol XJ12, Sovereigns and S-types. I was told by the car dealership I bought it from, they would top up the AdBlue, obviously not?

Today I received a orange warning light "In correct Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality Detected" then about 15 minutes later same error with "No Engine restarts in 512 miles In correct Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality Detected " It has recently done a 150 mile trip at motorway speeds, very smooth running.

I have searched but am not clear about adding AdBlue, 1. because of the "In correct Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality Detected" error and 2. guidance says add two bottles, then visit Jaguar for AdBlue fill up. Is it one or the other? Can I fill with AdBlue and that is enough or does it have to go to Jaguar for the AdBlue system?

Thank you

And that's the reason I've just sold my faultless (almost) 25D. I couldn't take a chance on this error message occuring to me. Having said that, every time I put Adblue in, I made damn sure I never overfilled it. Not that I'm suggesting you did, Baylea.

I have just soiled myself reading this thread 🥴

Car just out of warranty. Warning that adblu was low came on last week. Bought 10ltrs from halfords and topped it up. Didn't realise I had to do it 1ltr at a time! I've put about 7-8 litres in there. I've just checked and it is the correct serial number...but 😔

You don't need to put 1 litre in at a time, I buy 10 litres and pour it in and have not had a problem on the XF, now the XE that was something else, and one of the reasons I got shot of, was when I was on first name terms with the Jag assist guy's with this issue :)

No need to panic just yet!

The 180 engine has a 16l DEF tank and the first low level warning should come on with 1500 miles of range left. This means in theory that you had about 3l left so adding 10l keeps you comfortably under the total capacity.

163 engines have a 9l tank so extreme care needs to be taken when adding DEF to these.

I think if you're DIY filling, then aiming for 75% full is a precautionary maximum.

I have had my car 4 1/2 years and just topped it up myself from a 10 litre tub to a 1 litre Redex Adblu bottle which stops overfill when the tank is full it stops filling. It also has a filter built into the discharge spout. Bad storage and age can make this go off but I have used the same bottle over 4 years and have recently opened another bottle (10 Ltrs). I may be wrong but I think that Europe only has 2 Adblue production plants in Germany and Belgium. ( That was from something I read, I think. No doubt someone will either confirm or put me right)

Hi all

Any help wpuld be great. I have a XE 2ltr 2015 Rsport. Had it around 6 months now. I had the incorrect deisel fluid quality detected eorror around 4 weeks ago. Took it back to Jag who softwear updated it and cleared the error as well as cleaning the injector/sensor. Driving it last night it came back on after putting it in normal mode due to driving it down the motorway (normally in echo) its getting really annoying as i do a fair amount of miles and really dont need it back in the garage all the time. Anyone got any other ideas tocwhat it could be or to point me in the right direction? Jag replaced all the Ad Blu so know its the correct quality
Thanks

I had to take mine back 3 times to Jag main dealer after they topped it up for me. The first time they cleaned, reset and put new fluid in, second time it was a pump and the final time they put a new sensor in the exhaust system. It was under warranty the first time, the second time it was 2 months out of warranty but they did it at no cost, the third time it was 4 months out of warranty but they knocked 80% off so I paid £95. I hope this helps. It's now 2.5 months later and seems ok.

RE:00092219/Service and Repair - Business not accredited

Your Email ID Number is in the email's subject line. This number must be included in all future emails to avoid creating duplicate cases, which will delay us handling your dispute. Where possible, replying to this email will ensure any correspondence and attachments are allocated to your case.

Thank you for getting in touch with The Motor Ombudsman and we apologise for the delay in responding - we appreciate you being so patient with our service.

For us to be able to look into a complaint, the business involved has to be accredited to one or more of our Codes of Practice. That's what gives us the authority to investigate your case, make a decision and, if needs be, enforce that decision. We'd love to be able to help everyone that contacts us - however, the business you're complaining about isn't accredited to any of our Codes, so on this occasion, we won't be able to take this any further and have closed the enquiry.

It's worth asking the business if they're willing to engage in alternative dispute resolution - the process used to resolve things outside of the courtroom - and, if so, who they'd like to use.

We'd also recommend getting in touch with Citizens Advice, as they'll be able to help you understand your legal rights and give you some guidance on your next steps. You can call them on 0345 404 0506 or visit their website here. And, if you do end up having to take this to court, you can use this email to show that you've tried to resolve it without involving a judge.

We're really sorry we can't help you this time.

Kind regards,

Hi Guys

Read through this post which is interesting but I'm after a little advice.
Most of this post is discussing the bad experience with Jaguar garages.
I bought my 2015 jaguar xe diesal last July with no issues and have kept the adblue topped up.
Also had a new mot recently which passed the emissions but now have the "incorrect diesel exhaust fluid quality detected " message.
I don't want to get engaged in a bad experience with a main dealer who provides an astronomical bill (which I can't afford as I'm on ssp at the moment as I'm looking after my partner with cancer).
So I guess I'm asking advice on where should I start with this? I'd rather take good advice here and proceed to get the issue resolved quickly and as cheaply as possible rather than ask for advice on how to overturn a hefty bill.

Thanks in advance

Yes, I had the same issue which was fixed simply by a software update and a re-priming of the system via diagnostic software.
No sensors or pump replacement, no draining of tank, and no cleaning of injector or anything.
Might be worth looking into that first if it's cheaper than the other options.
Mine was done by the JagAssist man-in-a-van as it was still in warranty.

I don't believe it was a software bug in the code as such, just that the parameters used to determine DEF quality were set too restrictively and were loosened up by the software update.
Also, I think that if the tank is overfilled then the system has issues reading the DEF sensor(s) and falls back to reporting invalid fluid. Something I only vaguely recall reading on a TSB somewhere.

Thanks for the reply, I think more than anything I begrudge going to jaguar to sort this.
I'd rather just use my normal garage, just not sure if this is something only jaguar can sort out?
With a lot of makes using Adblue the independant garage may be able to reset everything. No doubt it will be a Bosch system.

Thank you, I will contact them, hopefully they can, I hate how franchise garages charge ridiculous amounts

Sadly it is to keep everything up to date with decor, tooling and all the training they get given to their techs. The local guy probably has a good range of equipment and a reasonable establishment but nowhere near the kit and overheads of the franchised garage.

I recently had the dreaded Ad Blue quality warning and the count down running on my 2015 XE. This was not long after I had topped up the Ad Blue.
After doing some research on here I couldnt find any information for a fix on the the Ad Blue system, other than take the car to the dealer for a potentialy expensive repair and reset.

What I did find on here was a good Topix guide on how to drain the Ad Blue tank which was easier than I thought. It just involves removing the LHR wheel and wheel arch liner, and draining the system through the drain tube, before refilling with fresh Ad Blue.

While I had the car on axle stands I also removed the Ad Blue injector, (very quick job and only requires undoing one 4mm allen bolt) and was suprised how much crystilisation was on the injector and the exhaust hole was partially blocked with crystalised Ad Blue.

The crystalisation on the injector was removed using a spray bottle containing hot water, which disolved the crystalisation very quickly.
To unblock the hole on the exhaust, I simply used a screw to loosed up the Adblue while holding a hoover next to the exhaust hole to stop any Adblue residue falling into the exhaust.
Once reassembled the Adblue quality warning was still on, but at some point during the drive to work of about 25 miles the next day the Ad Blue quality warning went off.

This was over a month ago and 900 miles covered since, without the Ad Blue warning re-appearing.
Based on my experience, if you have this fault I would recommend checking the Ad Blue injector first - It takes longer to jack up the car and fit axle stands than it does to do the job.

Hope this helps someone else with a similar problem

Less of a problem - at the moment.
My XE (180 d) 2016 showed 2800 miles DEF remaining.
I topped up with a 3.5 litre (fresh bought) from Halfords, and didn't overfill.
Then did about 800 miles (no problems)
The car is STILL showing 2800 miles DEF remaining
Does this mean I have a problem about to rear its ugly wotsit?

No it is possibly just not ready to tell you the correct mileage at present as I doubt it is gradually reporting, more like it will alter every 100 miles or so.
