Adblue empty - car won’t start! - Simple fix ?

I’m probably the stupidest person ever to allow my ad blue to run out before topping up.
Anyhow, even though I’ve filled it up to the brim it still won’t start because it says ‘please add 3.5 L’.
Does anyone know how to get the engine started again? (Ideally From home)
Thanks.

I’m afraid you’re stuffed. The only way to get it going again is to reset the timer and that can only be done with the dedicated software by either a main dealer or an independent. Also never fill the Adblue tank to the brim. It can result in upsetting the sensor.

Well...as mentioned already, you need dealership level software. What model year is your xe?

Yeah. I was doing long miles and late nights and basically ignored it hoping that I would do it one weekend. I literally had the Adblue ready and the car didn’t make it home. Big mistake that I won’t do it again!
It’s a 2017 Jaguar XE 2L diesel.

Thanks for all your replies so far.

So more likely 2018 model, you need to find someone with pathfinder. Would avoid main dealers as they will take arm and leg for this

Try pressing the assistance button... they will give you a price for attending but it may well be cheaper than going to a dealer or independent Jag specialist but make sure to get confirmation that they can fix it, otherwise they'll just send you to a dealer

SOLVED!
Just an update, I managed to get it working again.
My neighbour who is a mechanic bought round one of his ODB tools…..not a pathfinder…and with quite a bit of messing around he managed to get it working again.
We had to actually reset the Adblue sensor. Warning light went from red to yellow and told me I had 35 miles remaining. Then once I started the car I heard a lot of gurgling sounds and then the counter said I had 8500 miles remaining and the warning light was gone.

Hopefully if anyone has this problem (which I doubt ever) then this solution isn’t all that bad.
Thanks for all your help once again.

Wowzer, that's first! Non jlr software reset it. Nice. Can you find out what obd he is using please

Just a word of warning, if you have a newer car the obd is doip and using none jlr diagnostic equipment it will put the info display into a state where it wont go to sleep properly and will flatten the battery, there is a patch from jlr to fix this, its the same story when taking your car in for mot and the garage uses connected equipment for the mot test, it shouldnt be used on jlr products as it does the same

Maybe I'm a bit behind the times but why would an MOT testing station need to connect to the car electronically ?
As far as I'm aware it's all physical/visual checks apart from an emissions check done via the tailpipe ?

Car parts checked at an MOT

All 2018 and up models are doip

So have just been stuck on a petrol station forecourt for over an hour after filling up ad blue having had an amber warning light that had turned red. Car wouldn’t start. A helpful chap told me how to reset it and it worked. You need to press the start button but without putting your foot on the brake. Keep the button pressed in for about 10 seconds and do this 3 times, waiting a few seconds in between. Then just start normally, with your foot on the brake, and voila!

Priceless info.... needs to be pinned under "how to restart car after no engine restarts adblue warning expiry" or similar
