Hi

I am a new XE owner, I have my iPhone paired through Bluetooth and can make calls and play music from my iPhone via the entertainment system, but can't find any way at all of viewing the music, playlists etc which are stored on my iphone from the entertainment screen. Am I missing something ?

Thanks for your reply.

No I haven't tried connecting via USB. I assumed pairing it via Bluetooth would be enough, I had a BMW previously and it all worked perfectly via Bluetooth. DOes the XE need the iPhone to be hard wired via USB to allow the entertainment system to be able to scroll through the music on my phone?

Which infotainment system do you have? InControl Touch (small screen, physical buttons down the sides) or InControl Touch Pro (bigger screen, no buttons)?

In the latter, you need to go into the Bluetooth settings for the phone and make sure both the 'Use for Phone' and 'Use for Audio' selections are made. By default, only 'Use for Phone' is selected. Once done, your phone will appear as a source in the media section of the system.

Yes I have. I can play music from my phone on the Touch Screen,if my phone was playing an album the Touch Pro screen plays all the tracks on the album, I can fast forward, rewind select the next tract etc form the screen. BUT I can't select another artist or another album from the Touch Pro screen, the only way I can do that is to pick up the iPhone and change tracks from there so not ideal.

When you're on the Now Playing screen, is there a button that says 'Find' on the right?

Can you post a picture? There's several versions of the in car software, so it'll be easier to advise if we can see which one you've got.

Tap source, select your phone. The car is now reading data from your phone.
Tap find (may take a few seconds for this option to appear as it reads the tracks on your phone).
Use the buttons at the bottom centre of the screen to switch between track/album/artist list/search.

On my screen, after I've selected iphone as "source" then there's a "browse" button on the right side of the screen that gives access to playlist/artists/albums (this is when playing over Bluetooth)

Hi all,

I Installed the Incontrol App on my iPhone and connected the phone via the USB cable. Now I can use the screen on the car to find music on the phone, but when I select a track and press play from the car's screen the sound comes from my phone not the Car's entertainment system. What the heck is going on with this? I expected to pair my phone via Bluetooth and then be able to select songs stored on my phone from the cars entertainment system, but seems this isn't possible!

One question guys, does the jag XE allow connection via Bluetooth only (no USB cable connected), and with that be able to use the infotainment system to browse music on the phone and play that music out through the car's speaker system?

Yes it does. By both USB and Bluetooth and you also do not need the InControl app.

We're missing something here about why you can't get this working. Can you tell us how old the car is, and also what model iPhone you have?

The car is a 2017 XE Portfolio, I purchased it on Friday.
MY phone is an iPhone 6s

PAired the phone to the car and able to make and receive calls via the infotainment system. WHen I paired it I ticked the box in the Bluetooth Settings to use the phone for phone and audio.

With only Bluetooth pairing I was not able to see the songs, playlists etc on my phone. My only option on the infotainment was to play a song that I had already played on my phone prior to pairing. No option to find or select anything else.

Ok. Looks like your car is running an older version of the software that doesn't support growing via Bluetooth.

These are the same screens in my car with the latest software. You can get the car booked into your dealer for software update. There's other thread on the forum describing this and what to ask for.

When I first got my car I had exactly the same issue with the music coming from my iPhone 6 and not through the car speakers. Oddly enough, it worked fine with my wife's iPhone 5. The subsequent software upgrade sorted that out and it works fine.

I've just managed to get the same as you on the latest 18D software - it happens if the last music source I used on my phone was spotify, in which case I can only play and not browse.

If I fire up the music app on my phone and start playing some local music, I can then browse from the car.

Easiest way to see which software version you have is if your home screen is mainly text based in 3 columns, then you're on V4 (if it's tiled colourful graphics then you're on an old version). If you're on V4 you can see which revision by going to settings - all settings - software update. The revision number is the first 2 numbers and letter, I.e. 18B, 18C or 18D (just released to some dealers)

Thanks to you all, I ll call the dealer and get it sorted. Car is still under warranty so hopefully they will do it free of charge.

PS How do I check which version of the software is installed in the car?
This thread on the F-Pace forum should help. The software and hardware is the same across the current XE, XF, F-Pace and E-Pace.

I think that in the earlier versions you tap Settings, All settings, Features, Navigation, scroll down and tap About then tap on App Details. On the later versions there is a Software Update option on the All Settings menu that will give you the version number. I don't know how accurate this method of going via the Navigation settings is though. The version as per the navigation settings on mine is 2018B.7-7447 and the version through the Software Update setting is S18C_18.37.1-222737

Your software looks out of date as it has the old icons at the bottom (that version your show is the navigation app version).

Also, what version of iOS are you running on your phone? Do you have the "Music" app installed?

Try connecting your phone via bluetooth, select it as the source on your car, then start the music app on your phone and play some music. See if the browse option appears on your car then...

I connected the car to wifi and did a softwsre update. Still got the same issue, see photos. No way of searching my phones music from the infotainment screen
You didn't do a software update only a map update. The version of InControl you have is not capable of being updated over the internet, only the navigation maps are. You need to get it into a dealer to be updated under warranty.
