How many XEs were made?

Interesting to note that, although there are roughly 3 times more diesel XEs licensed than there are petrol ones, this is reversed for SORNed XEs, where SORNed diesels are 4 times the number of SORNed petrol XEs.
Could this be due to diesels being SORNed while their owners work out what to do with engines where the timing chains have failed?
One could also argue that the more miles you do, the more likely you are to buy a diesel. So petrols have generally less mileage.
