A stone hit my windscreen on the motorway at the weekend and a crack has appeared in the lower right hand corner which I think is getting larger and will need a replacement screen.
XE MY 21, it's a heated screen and has a lot attached to the upper middle of the screen like the video rear view mirror and it has a forward facing camera.

My thought is that this is probably a specialist job, not one for a random spotty Herbert from Autoglass? Haven't spoke to my insurer yet but if I go to a repairer of my choice they'll charge an extra £250 on top of the glass excess.

Any advice gratefully received.

Just had mine replaced at National Windscreens (my insurer's choice)... heated screen, camera recalibrated, no problems at all.

Autoglass did mine on my drive via my insurer. A small crack from an M25 lorry grew and it then needed a replacement.
The guy that came knew his stuff and said he only got the jobs where camera alignment was needed (anything modern). Certainly no unqualified youth.
He went on a 5 min test drive the get the lane assist stuff set up.
Good service. £115 excess as I recall, with no impact on No Claims.

Like other have said, I had the wires Fiesta changed last year, heated, etc... £70 excess and a job well done. These people change them for a living, it's a really easy process and I just contacted the windscreen company direct.

I had a quote from Jaguar for a new windscreen in my XE-S, supply and fit AU$3207

I was only going to change it due to slight sandblasting so I think I'll gently polish it instead

I had a local windscreen company do five of my work utes over the past two months... two of them leaked, one of them they literally forgot to glue it in and it almost fell out, and all the others they left glass and crap in the car. No way in hell they'd touch the jag. Maybe go into their workshop and have a chat while watching them do another vehicle, to see if they'll treat it with the care you expect

Had my non-heated windscreen replaced 8 months ago by my JLR dealer for US$1650. including Calibration.

Lets be honest, JLR don't make the screens. Nearly all are made in the same factory, but there is a massive increase to get a JLR emblem engraved. Most dealers will also subcontract the work as it is quite specialised. So just go ahead with Autoglass (or whoever your insurers recommend)

and you can always ask to have jag branded screen installed. otherwise they will install non branded

From experience they will charge you extra for this but it normally only runs to and extra £25 - £50, somehow the branded screens always seem to stay better longer.

My new, non branded, screen is absolutely fine... I'm glad I didn't pay extra just to have a logo etched above the certification mark in the corner

of course non branded are fine, exactly the same.

I once had a new screen fitted to a car and all the way home I could smell cooked meat pie. The dirty sods had sat in the back of my car to eat their lunch break while I sat in the less than accomodating "customer Service area" with mags from 1950. When I looked in the back I could see the pathetic attempt at trying to clean it up. On the phone to them I was more or less called a liar with expletives. So a late thank you to AUTOGLASS for outstanding insults.

Had Autoglass replace my screen twice (100 miles a day on M25) excellent job both times, very professional and no problem with all the gubbins including my personal cam.

I went to the JLR Dealer to get the glass replaced since here in the USA, my private auto insurance company allows me to go to whomever I want to do the work as long as the cost does not exceed their maximum cost for a windscreen replacement for that type of vehicle. US$1650 was under this max cost and, since I am still under JLR's Factory Warranty, any future water leaks around the windscreen would be totally on the accountable JLR dealer. I paid only US$100 as my out-of-pocket deductible. Again, I just offered these numbers as a "full retail" cost comparison number for those who are interested.

Again it's the usual suspects who are responsible.
I have mentioned this before but this is the last time.
If you want to chat/take the pi** about brake caliper colours THEN START YOUR OWN THREAD!
Any more of this stuff, then some people are heading for a ban.
Not necessarily permanent to start with but I am fast running out of patience with a few on here.

A belated follow up to this thread that I started. Insurer sent me to National Windscreens who sourced the replacement screen from a Jaguar dealer, pretty much first rate job, only minor annoyance was a few finger print smudges on the inside of the screen.
