Deep Country Work Trip

Post by ant_in_wales » Thu Feb 21, 2019 5:13 pm

It's my The Jag, but work slip me a few quid to do sometime home visits.
I agreed to today's without really checking where Towey Bridge is.
It's beyond Lampeter, then get off the road at the Gold Mine (yes, it's still 1845 in rural Wales) and then 8 miles of road narrower than the car.
And then turn off the road at the metropolis of Towey Bridge.
Some nice pictures, but the car is filthy and there were some hairy moments.
The Jag's alright; I'll be alright in a while.

Jealousy will get me nowhere

The most exciting road I've been on so far today is the Oldbury Ringway

Why does almost everyone have better roads nearby than I do...

My normal driving is well-balanced - A roads with proper dotted lines, but winding and pretty.
Lampeter was terrifying, and no one with a newer or more upmarket The Jag would do it.
A44 from Llanidloes to Aberystwyth is superb, especially since the Newtown bypass has just opened.
Llanidloes to Machynlleth very pretty too.
Your The Jags would love rural mid-Wales!

The plan is for my Jag to get very familiar with the welsh roads once it arrives :-)

Last autumn we did a couple of days driving around Wales in the Insignia, stopping overnight in Montgomery and then Aberystwyth, driving back via Machynlleth and a brewery in Montgomery. :D

Hopefully the Jag will cope a little better with the mountains than my old moped did - "light pedal assistance" to climb Bwlch y Groes at the height of the summer of '76 wasn't -quite- as much fun as I'd hoped

Wow, the 300 is a hell of a contrast to the moped.
That really is progress.
Monty's do some great beer, and it's a slightly overlooked pleasant town.

Only a hundred and fifty times as many horses for the XE as for the moped

and about twice as many pounds per horsepower :o

Mind you the moped -was- back in the day of four pints of Banks's Mild for a quid, and you got change!

Now that looks like fun! And for work! Not sure I'd be able to go that far as would probably need at least one visit to the petrol station and there probably aren't many that do anything but red diesel out there! Great photos!
