2018 Jaguar XE 25t Rear Brakes

Post by MPAVictoria » Tue Jul 28, 2020 3:07 pm

Hello All,

I just dropped off my XE with 22,000km on it for a service at the dealership. I had noticed a weird build up of brake dust on the rear passenger wheel and mentioned it to the service adviser as something to take a look at. They phoned me about an hour later to advise me the rear brakes were shot and that I could expect a $950 dollar bill for their replacement (new pads and rotors). They claim this is normal on performance sedans and are offering a 15% discount as a good will gesture. I feel it should be covered completely as a manufacturing defect. I am having them do the work but is it worth reaching out to Jaguar Corporate for some sort of good will gesture? Any other ideas?

Thank you
Mitch

You can try Jaguar themselves but don’t expect to much.

The rear pads and discs on my 25T had to be replaced at 18k miles as they were totally worn out.
Apparently this sort of rear brake wear is to be expected with the brake vectoring and is not actually a fault.
I had a better quality rear disc fitted on the rear but stayed with the Jaguar pads.

Do a search on rear brake wear, there are quite a few posts about it.

Sadly it looks like you are right. A shame as a thousand dollar touch every eighteen months on new pads and rotors is not going to be a fun time. Can I ask what rotors you went with? The next time this happens I am going to try going that root.

If the dealers in Canada are anything like the ones in the UK, they will be charging a lot more than other garages for the same job. To replace rear discs and pads is a job any garage can do. The discs that Jaguar use have a particularly bad name for corrosion and if you get the dealer to fit new ones, you will probably end up with the same make which I believe but not sure are made by ATM. The pads are fine and it is worth getting the Jaguar ones if possible as they are ceramic and do not shed any dust on the wheels. I replaced mine with Brembo but there are loads of different options available.

I had Brembo discs and genuine Jag pads and sensors. I had an independent garage do the work for me and the cost for everything was £360.

Where did you get the pads from Bob, Jaguar dealer or online?
My Brembo discs are not showing any signs of corrosion so I would certainly buy again but next time I need pads I would like to get the Jaguar ones as they don’t produce any dust

Hi Bob, pads came from a Jaguar dealer. I went that route as there are quite a few variations out there so if they were wrong I could just take them back and ask for the correct version.

Thanks Bob. I think I will go the same route next time I need pads. The Brembo ones don's shed an awful lot of dust but it's noticeably more than the original Jaguar ones.
