Adblue quality

Post by Eman » Tue Oct 08, 2019 9:21 pm

Now done just over 1000 miles since purchasing car & got the warning incorrect diesel exhaust fluid quality detected. Spoke to garage who advised popping in for a refill @
& they confirmed that adblue tank was filled prior to purchase. Tank took approx 8 litres which seems a lot for a 1000 miles. Garage cleared fault but immediately it reappeared but now with 512 miles warning to not starting. Garage also identified that 2 glow plugs showing faults which could well be related so returning to garage to have these changed. Nice car but jury still out at the moment

Is this a brand new or used car? If the former then a major worry but if as I suspect the latter, then did they really fill the adblue tank? I woud think if it has allegedly used 8 litres in 1000 miles something is not quite right and ditto with the glow plugs. I would have thought start up would have provided the best clue something wasn't as it should be.

Incorrect diesel quality does not indicate a refill.

I have a similar problem, car going in for diagnostics tomorrow. Have a look at my earlier post: AdBlu advice please. What model XE is it?

Car is a my 2016 Portfolio AWD with 33,000 miles. Spoke again to garage who said that no the adblue was not filled up as not showing any required. Went to work distance of 13 miles & back home, distance left of 490 miles left however on next journey all warnings gone. Spoke again to garage who I got car from & who I have being dealing with for 25 years & who have always been brilliant. They are surprised but have theories & are determined to sort out so car back 1 day next week for further checks.

From all the many posts on here about Adblue, it appears that not keeping it topped up to the required level, or overfilling it seems to cause problems. I have always topped it up monthly when doing checks in general and had no problems so far. (fingers crossed)

I've just put 3.5l in mine as the display was showing a 1700 mile range left but it's due a service shortly. I think overfilling can be the root of many problems so there's no way I'll fill mine up the the max. I'll probably aim to leave at least 3l unfilled, just to be sure.

This is why I decant into a Redex Adblue bottle with a filter and valve fitting in the top. Somehow it must work on pressure in the bottle and stops adding any more than required. What was going to be a throw away plastic bottle is now a tool.
