Searching for STJLR.51.5122 approved lubricant

Since the dealer in my country (H.K.) charges me a fortune for a simple oil change (over GBP300 per change), I have decided to start my search for lubricants for my 2.0 Ingenium AJ200. Below are my findings so far:

1. Castrol Edge Professional E 0w-20 (Jaguar) Fully Synthetic Engine Oil
2. Motul Specific 5122 0w-20 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil
3. Fuchs Titan GT1 EVO 0w-20 Premium Performance Engine Oil
4. Mobil 1™ ESP x2 0W-20
5. RAVENOL Eco Synth ECS SAE 0W-20
6. EUROL ULTRANCE JLR 0W-20
7. Wolf Oil MS-MFE SAE 0W20

Honestly, with my rather poor knowledge of lubricants, I have only heard the brands of 1,2,3, and 4. Some are very hard or even impossible to get outside UK.

Appreciate if someone can kindly extend the list.

It's been discussed on here quite a few times and like you have found, the choices are very limited.
In the UK numbers 1,2 & 3 are available from limited suppliers and the new Mobil is still very rare (and expensive!)
From my research here only the first 4 specifically show that they are compliant with the spec 5122 and I haven't heard of the rest you have listed.
I managed to source 8 litres of the Castrol from an independent supplier for around £90 compared to a previous service a couple of years ago when the dealer charged £140.
The Castrol is still in pretty limited supply here but the Fuchs and Motul are about.
I don't know if you can source any of these three easily in HK ?

I have been offered both Fuchs and RAVENOL in HK.
Fuchs will cost me insanely GBP100 per 4L here !!! I need a total of 7L (4Lx2), which is GBP200!!!
However, Revenol is cheaper, with a price tag of GBP 50 per 4L. The only downside is Revenol has sulphated ash %wt. 1.0, higher than other brands average 0.8x. I'm no expert, so not sure if its bad. :?:

I've just searched my supplier and there seems to be a new Millers oil that is also compliant with the spec.
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/search/go?w=stjlr.51.5122

I've also had a look at their International shipping and allowing for 1 litre being about 1 kg it's looking like around £50 to £60 to ship to HK for 7 litres.

Thanks.

Contacted OPIEoil for the confirmation of the shipping cost. I believe it's about the same as your calculation.

I am just wondering what's the exact fundamental difference between STJLR and non-STJLR approved premium oils? As I can see some are just as good as STJLR approved on paper, if not better. Some are even 100% synthetic and API SN/RC, instead of full synthetic and API SN, the only thing missing is the damn STJLR.51.5122 approval.

Probably nothing at all on paper but it's the warranty issues if things go wrong (probably nothing to do with the oil) as it can give them room to get out of warranty claims.
As the XE is getting older and out of warranty a lot more people are looking to source their own oil for servicing and very gradually the suppliers are adding more to the spec.
Until a year or so ago only the Castrol would come up with the spec but at least there are now four.

I have just purchased, on line, CASTROL EDGE PROFESSIONAL E 0W-20 - 1 LITRE (JAGUAR) to top up the engine oil in between services at a cost of £14.75 including shipping. It's very expensive but obviously necessary for this engine.

I had 1 litre from Halfords, they charged me £19.00.

Wow! Jeff, and I thought £14.75 was expensive. . The 2.0L petrol Jag takes 7 litres, so at Halfords prices it would cost (Cough splutter) £133 to do an oil change? I must admit, I'm used to buying 5 litres of oil in Halfords for a little over £30 for my previous cars.

Having recently received the oil, I think I know why it's so expensive. I haven't used it yet, but just shaking the container gently the contents feel like water. This oil is certainly very thin and very different to anything I have used before.
