8 gear Automatic transmission in XE 2017 Portfolio staying in low gear

Post by cobbep » Sat Feb 22, 2020 12:56 pm

I have noticed that on just a few occasions the automatic gears stay in low gear and I have to use the steering wheel paddle to move up gears.
It only happens every now and then but I wonder if anyone else has experienced this issue ?.

I will of course get my dealer to look at it

Mine sometimes seems to hang onto the lower gears a little longer than I would expect when driving gently, changing at 2500-3000rpm where my Wife's Audi driven in the same manner changes between 1500-2000rpm.
Not a huge issue and I have got used to it, it does change every time.

I’ve noticed the same. I normally drive in normal mode but on quite a few occasions the revs go thru the roof before changing. I never drive fast. Sometimes I change to dynamic mode to stop it. It’s quite weird really.

I've mentioned this previously. I think i've noticed it's worse when the weather is damp, could be my imagination. When it does happen it's always after prolonged on off of the throttle like being in heavy traffic.

My 2019 did this exact thing for the first time the other day. It was like it was stuck in gear until I started using the paddles. Got home, parked it up, gave it an hour and then took it around the block again and it was fine. Very weird.

It’s intelligent.... will quite often do this on an incline, rather than change up and have the engine labour. Applying a bit more throttle will cause it to change up though

The gearbox is trying to be smart sometimes.
A bit like an enthusiastic puppy that thinks "Dad" wants to have a fast run then has a problem calming and slowing down.
I had it a few times after a spirited getaway and the car assumes it's "Track mode" time .
You can either wait and or apply a gentle throttle and it will eventually change up or as most people do a couple of taps on the up paddle will get it's head straight again.

Hi Cobbep, perhaps you coud try all the different driving modes to see if any change occurs. I think the rain/snow/ice setting changes up at quite low revs. (I had mine on this for about a week as I preffered the gentle nature when driving off and the early gear changes.) :)
