Apple CarPlay Issues

Post by Bassman62 » Tue Jun 25, 2019 12:40 pm

I have an intermittent issue with Apple CarPlay. Sometimes I get a message to say that I need to plug in the phone (see picture attached) even though the phone is already phyisically connected (and being charged). I have a theory that this happens when I plug in the phone before starting the engine - if I wait until after starting the engine then things seem to work as they should.

I have booked it in to the dealer to have a look but wondered if anybody else has a similar experience with CarPlay

Phone iOS is 12.3.1and ICT Pro is at 19A.

Thanks

Huw

First thought is that maybe one of the USB ports is dodgy.
Have you tried it in both ?
The other is the cable which can be an issue if it isn't an original one or it's getting a bit tired.

It’s on my list of things to test.

I have exactly the same experience and like you I think that it is related to plugging in too early. Mine is an iPhone 6s running iOS 12.3.1 and ICTP release 19A.

Interesting - I tried plugging it in before starting the engine yesterday and it worked fine so I can't be sure I am right in my theory. It's one of those irritating things that really should work every time.

Thanks for the feedback,

It’s a bit hit and miss for me as well but it’s definitely related to plugging in too early. It could be related to the start up time of the system which also seems to be fairly variable.

Quick update - Jaguar dealer reloaded ICT Pro software to see if they can fix the CarPlay issue. First impression is that something has changed as there's no delay in CarPlay being recognised when plugging in the phone. Before it used to take a while (upto a minute) but I will monitor things carefully.

I am a bit disgruntled that the dealer seemed to use the data on the in-car SIM leaving me with no data for a couple of weeks before I get my next 500MB allowance (there was c.300Mb on the card at the weekend). It's not a biggie as I can use data on my phone if I need, but as a matter of principle I think they should have connected the car to their WiFi network for this. Next time I am going to take the SIM out to force them to use their WiFi.

Cheers

I expect they updated it to 19Arev4, a re-load uses a LOT more data than that and cannot be done over the air.

Good to know, thank you. However I will still remove the SIM next time the car goes in just in case - I went from 300+MB to nothing whilst they had the car for a couple of days.

Could you let us know if this is still working OK? Also do you know how to check amount of data left on sim card?

Thanks
