So, does the smartphone pack software upgrade require "In Control Apps"?
Nope - As I understand it they are seperate, Once installed, when you connect your smartphone to the car's USB you can set it up to either load In Control Apps or the new feature is to load Android Auto or Apple Car play.

So, this should generally also be an option for cars with the standard ICT without the InControlApps option?

This is down to Jaguar development - I suspect there's nothing technically to stop them, it's their appetite to do so.
The pro systems seem to be getting updates to v4 (18c) which then allows the CarPlay / Auto.

Just posting my experience here.
Swapped my XE to a brand new XF (MY19) a few weeks back.
On the handover they kept me waiting as they said they had to put the latest software on. Turns out this was 18C.
I had no idea there needed to be a smartphone pack enabled and then after seeing posts on this and Jaginfo thought bugger!
I've checked and connecting my phone only allows Jaguar Incontrol apps (nigh on useless!).

I've put a call in with my local dealer to ask about the add-on being applied - be interesting to see if they know about it and whether they attempt to charge!
Have to let us know, as this is basically what happened with me, though they replied and told me it would cost me £300 for the privilege!

I'm in the same boat as "bigmick" although with an XE I picked my MY19 car mid October and no smart phone pack runnig other then InControl, here's the interesting bit though, after checking my car has a version of "18C" - S18C_18.32.4-205602 - BUT there is a later version the dealer emailed me the SIDIC - S18C_18.37.1-222737 which i understand is the "phase 4" standard.

Even though there is this newer Software the car even with Update Check enabled hasn't told me , even though its just told me there is another map update.... the second since I've bought the car.

Anyway mines booked in in January (for free) as I need a loan car and the software squirt takes half a day ......

The software update checker that’s built into phase 4 software isn’t activated yet on any model apart from the i Pace. It’s still being tested with a view to being ‘switched on’ for MY20.

My car brand new 2019my XE r sport arrives at the dealers tomorrow what version of the system should I be getting. I don’t want to be given an old version and would like to be able to tell them what it should have rather then being told what I’m getting.

Thanks

James

Just dropped my '17 XE at a dealership in San Jose, California this morning, only to be told that they don't have the smartphone pack software yet. I know there's been a lot of confusion on this front at the dealer level, but I had thought for sure it would have been cleared up by now.

Anyone in California have luck yet? The service advisor theorized that it was on the east coast, but not the west yet.

It was loaded last week by my dealer in Missouri so the idea it's not available in California makes no sense. Carplay is not miraculous but it's better than icontrol pro apps, which never worked consistently for me. Carplay actually works. My only complaint is it's a bit low-res looking.
