Hi i'm new to the forum (was on the XF forum but my car got written off by the driver behind me on the M4 last year...)

I have an MY2017 XE portfolio with the InControl App but on a normal screen, not the wide screen. Will I be able to upgrade this setup to Apple CarPlay? My wife has it in her Mini and it's amazing I really regret not having it. Asking particularly because i'm having a problem with Spotify/InControl App, which will be another post now.

If I am able to get it does anyone know the cost?
Have pretty much answered my own questions having now had time to go through all 27 pages. Still not sure though whether there’s a technical barrier to making it available on the 8” screen or just the current position doesn’t allow.
Not sure if you were able to answer this question definitively? There appears to be an even newer update to the ICTP -- version 19B -- which is now available for download over the air and/or at the dealership. I also have an ICTP with the required ports to install the Smartphone Pack but I have the smaller 8.5" screen. With this latest 19B update, it still isn't clear to me whether the smaller screens would work or not????

According to this, yes. What JLR have told you is correct.

I have set up type B fortunately.
For those without an HDMI port, the "COMPLIMENTARY INCONTROL UPGRADE" is not compatible right?

The website you linked only says that "to benefit from the Smartphone Pack, your car will need to have a 10.2” Touchscreen and a connected USB port."

There is no reference to the need for an HDMI port.

Have to agree with Stephen.
An HDMI port was something that appeared on some models for a while but has nothing to do with Carplay/Android Auto.
You can only get the free updgrade to enable these if you have the PRO system with the 10" touchscreen.
As far as I know, all XE's have at least one USB port which is needed to connect your phone for Carplay etc.

Ok but i have the setup "A" (no sim card).
They just upgraded to the 19C version and didn't let them activate the smartphone pack.

Is there a hardware upgrade? Or is setup "A" really unlucky?

Actually, you do need a certain media panel in order to qualify for AirPlay or Android Auto.

I have type A on mine even though I opted for the 825W option and I've been told by the dealer that there's no way to upgrade, even if I'm willing to pay.

For those without the "Pro" package it is possible to get Apple CarPlay running on the standard ICT. I paid for an aftermarket module that sits behind the touch screen and provides the functionality without interrupting any of the standard Jaguar functions. To launch CarPlay (or Android auto) you just press and hold the Home button on the ICT. CarPlay operates via touch screen as it should, no additional buttons or jog wheels are required. I had it running on my 2017 XE R-Sport successfully with no issues. As I've now upgraded the XE I have this CarPlay system available for anyone that's interested. Just PM me if your'e interested.
