Update - it has worked with the Sandisk! Bizarre.

Anyway it's sorted not. Thanks for the input.

Good news!

I'll be updating mine this weekend as there's a big trip coming up next week. What could possibly go wrong?

I understand that now - I have the basic Incontrol Touch software - I've just put my hand in my pocket and spent £97 on the latest maps
download OK and UK and Irish republic maps updated.

It looks like I might have managed a discount on the £97 - I paid by Paypal, which reported that it could not process a payment in GBP -
so I agreed to pay in Euros (€107 approx). When I was transferred to the Paypal site it briefly flagged up the amount in Euros and its
conversion back to GBP but showed £90 ! - all payments pending but will check back in a day or two!

I’m STILL waiting for my SD Card from where I bought the car and should have it soon. Might get the Jag maps once I have it, but the SD is also required for anything voice related like reading our SMS or being able to call somebody using the voice control button.

Do you know if the Jag Sat Nav with SD has live traffic updates and routes around issues like Google Maps? I’m using Genius Maps via InControl and it’s abysmal at times.

It uses HERE Maps which gave me some confidence but they must have their own routing algorithm as it’s pants.

So When I get the SD I’ll either use the built in Jag Nav, or put the £97 for the map update towards one of the JoyeAutp CarPlay conversion kits and use Google / Apple maps for free.

I was under the impression the SD card was purely for navigation?

My previous Xe had the SD system and it certainly had live traffic updates and re-routing. It had a Jag supplied data sim buried somewhere so there may be subscription charges to pay?

The SD card was maps only.
The built in sim is for your incontrol app journey recording/remote start etc.
No subscription charges during the warranty period for it.
Pro maps are free for the warranty period.
Updating the SD card was always at cost even during warranty apart from one at the start as I recall.

Mine was in warranty and I had to pay if I wanted it updated. Being cheap, I didn't and often found myself going offroad on longer trips! :)

Thanks,

Sounds like the Jag Nav on the older SD version will be good for a backup if there’s no signal or my phone breaks etc. since it’ll not have live traffic info.

I’m waiting until I actually have to drive daily before I plunge for the CarPlay kit but I think it might be the way to go, it worked well in my previous car and that had a really bad screen (from the late nouties and never designed to show more than basic radio info/service info). Will feel a lot more modern on the XE display.

Based on my previous experience with the kits I really would recommend them for those with the older incontrol. I’ll do a full review of the benefits and limitations when I get round to picking one up.

Map updated. Simple process this time but so, so slow. Took about 4 hours to download the map and it wasn't my connection speed that was the issue.

I've just bought an approved 2018 30T with only 4500 miles on and I am over the moon with it. However the Touch Pro Duo is so very different from my 2015 car that is does take an awful lot of brain scratching to work out what does what. Certain to be an age thing and I'm sure one of todays 10 year olds would have sorted it in no time. I spent most of yesterday trying to work out how to download the latest map update.

I created an account on the Here site via my desktop computer and added the car vin, then connected the car to both house and mobile networks. Punched in the account details in the car navigation and then back to the desktop to see what maps were available. Logged in but no vehicle showing. The vin I had added earlier had disappeared ....grrrrr. Tried this a few times but gave up the end as I was getting the same result each time. Up early today and loaded the Route Planner app onto my phone with a nice map showing my car sitting in the middle of the JLR site in Coventry. No it's not, it's in Wales!! However after punching the screen here and there, I discovered maps were available, so back to the Here site and mysteriously my car was now listed and there was an option to download maps. I downloaded onto a stick which took about an hour and then transferred the update to the car which took another half an hour Maybe there is a delay when you first set up the account before you can download maps.

Now to try and work out the rest of it. As far as I can see, I don't have to have an onboard sim and can use my mobile data if need be. I won't be downloading music or other apps so can't really see the point in buying a data sim or am I missing something?
