Do I have to pay £230 for a new wing mirror

Post by peterfoster » Mon Feb 26, 2018 2:02 pm

I damaged the driver's side (powered) wing mirror this morning. The only bit that seems to be damaged is the black plastic piece of trim which goes round the mirror. The mirror's functions all work fine.

I was shocked, therefore, when the main agent told me I'd have to buy a big piece of kit at a cost of £230 plus £100 to fit. In other words, they don't sell the plastic surround on its own.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether there is another route I can follow with this which won't be as costly.

Ebay and Ist for Spares didn't have the trim available. Like the main agent, they are selling loads of stuff attached to the trim which of course I don't need.

Thanks

try here

If you scroll down to exterior styling you can get wing mirror covers for £99 each (still a lot ) but maybe you can fit them yourself.

Earlier topic on here last year

Also a Google of "XE wing mirror covers " throws up a few hits.

Peter, I think that the black plastic trim is actually the main mirror construction. The coloured bit and the glass are the only seperate items fron the main black plastic body and motor. ie the bits that you don't want Try looking on the web for breakers. I used to source expensive parts that way a few years back for cars.

Thanks. The cover is undamaged. Used part is around £160 so not a lot less than the new price. Oh, dear....

Ordered the mirror body from the local main agent for £236.53 including VAT. In addition they require a further £100.80 including VAT to fit the part . The guy who services my wife's car tells me he's happy to fit the part for £30.

I'll try to defray part of the cost of this exercise by selling the "old" mirror body on Ebay. Someone might want it as the only damage appears to be to the black plastic piece of trim which goes around the mirror. It's worth a try!
