Pen / biro mark on leather seat back

Post by JiggyJag » Fri Apr 19, 2019 5:36 pm

I've got what looks like a small pen or biro mark on the back of the passenger seat, on both the hard and soft leather.
I've tried the leather cleaner / conditioner supplied with the car and it's now much lighter but not fully removed.
Should I continue with the conditioner or is there a better product to use ?

From years back I think if you rub it with milk it will come out. Be careful and don't use much.

Biro ink is oil based or used to be. When I had biro ink on my leather seats in the Rover 75 (beige leather) I was advised to cove the area with a leather care product. Then dip a cotton bud in rubbing alcohol and remove the ink. Clean with soapy water and re apply leather care product.

Many years back, the daughter of a friend who was visiting decided to draw a picture with a ballpoint pen on the arm of our near new leather lounge suite. We washed it thoroughly with warm water and pure soap and it came off after about 5 minutes of cleaning.

Apparently that is a bit of a myth from what I have been reading. There are specialist stick type cleaners out there specifically for Biro ink removal.

Apparently some Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton bud will gently remove ink but needs care and several goes.
Ensure the leather is treated afterwards.
Best source of Isopropyl Alcohol.......Halfords Electrical contact cleaner in a spray can.
Good all round gunk remover.

A few years back I bought a 500ml bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol from boots for less than a fiver!!! Might be worth asking.

Anti-septic wipes are Isopropyl alcohol, some are diluted with water. Might be a good way to use small amounts.
