Various queries

Post by Mike Rometer » Tue Apr 23, 2019 12:08 pm

Yes, and before someone else suggests it, I'm definitely an oddity at least!

First, after my trip to the South Coast last week I cleaned the car today, inside and out, in the driver's foot-well I found this (not the coin), which appeared it may have come from under the dash. Does anyone recognise it?

When doing round the closures of the bonnet I noticed that not every screw holding the front panel on has a plastic cover-plate (like the second on the left), is this correct, or does it help confirm my assertion that the front panel has been renewed or at least removed?

Also there is no sound deadening panel on the underside of the bonnet. Is this correct or is that too missing?

Just fixed your extra photo.

Don't know what the clip type thing is.
Had a look under my seats and nothing like that so I would suggest it's not from the car.

The screw covers are quite normal.
On mine only the outer 2 have the rectangular plate exactly the same as yours.

Not all XE's have the insulation fitted under the bonnet so don't worry.

No underbonnet sound deadening is fitted to petrol derivatives. (Or wasn't initially)
The square plastic fitting on the grille is probably to do with the length of the bolt protruding underneath.
The spring clip is likely to have come loose from under the seat.
My thoughts anyway.

Phil has beat me to it. :D

Cheers PhilB and Vespa.

Nice to have these things confirmed without having to travel to a dealer. Mine is only about 10 miles away but in a district that I only frequent about twice a year, and one of those is for service.

The clip, I'm sure I've seen something very similar somewhere before, it was more under the dash than the seat, but then things do migrate.

The clip looks very familiar. It's as if it hooks around something at the round end and then the angled part puts whatever its holding under tension to keep it in place.

Yep, feel I should recognise the clip too.

Seems like you put a self-tapping screw through the small hole and the big hole supports something like a cable maybe?
