Does the new one have a sensor for auto dipping like the "old" version does?

Re: frameless mirror - new type
Dont mean to hijack this, but is it possible to retrofit the clear view mirror from a 2020 XE?
Re: frameless mirror - new type
You would have to replace the shark fin on the roof as that's where the camera is.
Plus would the cabling be ok to maintain the current signals for wifi/mobile data etc ?
Software too.
Big job methinks if it is actually possible.

I wouldn't bother, I've got it on mine and it's just a gimmick, if you wear glasses it's all out of focus anyway

Yeah I thought it sounded like a gimmick. Is it only out of focus for those who wear glasses? Trying to work out how glasses make a difference. Surely if the image in a normal mirror is in focus, the camera one should be too.

Just curious why it's out of focus if you wear glasses? I wear glasses for distance viewing but can see the dash and infotainment clearly enough.

Re: frameless mirror - new type
It's a complicated optical trick, and why it wouldn't work for me and my glasses....
To explain it as easily as I can, the image of an object in a mirror is focussed as far behind the mirror as the object is in front, but the image for the camera is in focus at the surface of the mirror, which is acting as a TV screen.
So even the Audi trying to climb my exhaust pipe would be far enough away, in the mirror, to need the distance portion of my varifocals, but if I had the clear view and switched it on, I'd need to use the near part of the varifocals for the Audi to be in focus
Hopefully that makes sense.
It would work perfectly for a youngster with fully working eyesight, but not for us folks of more advanced years, even if we haven't grown up yet
