Driver side wiper replacement -

Post by Mr_M_cox » Fri Oct 30, 2020 10:56 am

Hi All,

Any tips or tricks on replacing the driver side wiper on my XE? I know from past cars from other manufacturers that it can be a right fiddle!

Any tips from experience on how to best detach and reattach the new would be great.

Thanks,

Replace both wipers as a matter of course. Don't bother faffing with the service/park proceedure as it can be done with them resting at the bottom of the screen. Put a towel on the screen doubled up under the blade and that will protect the screen should the arm hit it with the blade off. To remove press the centre square in the blade fastener and slide it off. It is a tight fit hence the "towel tip". Check the new fittings for the correct adaptor and push fit that back on the arm. ie reverse proceedure of removal. Blades can be bought cheaper from the net but buy good makes such as Bosch or Valeo.

Lifting the bonnet will also give you more room.
Bosch Aerotwin are the ones from Halfords.
Plenty of previous topics on this and they seem to be the ones people go for.

The tip about using a towel is a good one, they seem to bash the window every time I change them.

I just can’t imagine why you would only change one wiper blade and even where to buy a single blade.

I agree 100% with the advice not to put the wipers into Service/Park. I replaced the wipers on my 180D and decided to park them. All was fine. I had removed the offside blade and the arm was in mid air off the screen waiting to fit the new one. I took a bit of time looking at the various fittings to see which one was correct. Then my mobile rang and I answered it. Not sure exactly how long it was before I went back to fitting the wiper but probably somewhere between 5 and 10 mintutes. I was holding the arm fitting the blade when suddenly without warning the park timed out and decided to put the wipers back to normal position. I managed to catch the arm before it did any damage coming back down and clouting the windscreen. I think I was very lucky.

Its a stupid service/park system on the Jags!
On my previous Audis the service position was set by moving the wiper control and then turning the ignition off, the wipers would stay in that position until you turned the ignition on again. Very handy in winter as you could leave the wipers in the service position overnight which made it easier to lift them from a frozen screen the next morning.

All their wipers appear to be singles!

I completely get the idea of replacing in pairs, like with tyres, brakes, lights etc. as if one if going or gone likely the other is too. In this case, it was overzealous cleaning of the blade rather than the passing of time which has led to a replacement, they have plenty left in them other than what damage I did myself hence only doing one.

Try these. The price is reasonable too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XE-Fr ... SwBgZb7t3Q

NIGHTMARE!

Just tried fitting and it wont go, the plastic housing on the wiper adapter just doesn't look compatible.

Went for this for driver side - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/wiper ... 74352.html

Anyone got experience of fitting that model?

Thanks.
