So, my 4 month old XE has developed this exact same clunking noise. Every time the car goes over a bump, most noticeably at low speeds, there is a loud clunk from the front left suspension.
Really not happy.

Hi Lemoncurd.
Mine went back to dealer yet again last week.
They say they have cured it but I am still listening out for it. All sounds good so far though.
They tell me that it was the bonnet hinge on LHS of car. Apperently a screw was not adjusted properly and rattling .
It may be worth a look.

I don't think it's anything loose. It clunks when the front nearside suspension is compressed.
I phoned my local Guy Salmon today and the service engineer suggested first of all that I check the wheel nuts (which seems a little odd). So I duly checked them, and also had a good look around the wheel arch for anything obvious. The drop link bushes and steering rack boot and connections all seemed sound. The spring and spring cap looked ok and there was no obvious misting from the shocks.
However, there are two light blue plastic spacers or something clipped to the spring (there's only one on the offside), one of which is right against the back of the wheel arch.
I phoned the dealer back and described this to him and he had no idea what I was talking about. He said that if it is making a clunking noise I shouldn't really drive it too much and suggested I try Jaguar Assist. They will come and take a look tomorrow.

Any ideas what those plastic things on the springs are for?

Sorry, no idea what they could be.
Mine appeared to be when front near side suspension compressed. They have previously replaced suspension and mounts on that side plus steering rack but didnt cure problem.

Hope this link works, but it's a photo of the plastic thing in question. You can't see the other one around the back of the shock strut.

Just a thought - are they blocks put in for transport and removal forgotten? A friend had a new Toyota some years ago and found the suspension unbelievably stiff. Took it back to the dealers - red faces - they are to stiffen the springs to allow secure strap down on the delivery truck and they had forgotten to remove them!
Perhaps phone the dealer and ask if thats possible - might be worth a freebie as an apology.

Certainly look like the "transport blocks" to me.
I would take it back and demand to see the service dept principal and show them the issue and ask what they are going to do by way of compensation.
But on a serious note, that is downright dangerous under normal driving conditions.
It's even more dangerous as you have two on one side and one on the other as your suspension is seriously compromised.
Just mention the words "Trading Standards" if they try and shrug it off.

I suspected they may be something like that. Not sure if they're the cause of the clunking, but I guess I'll find out later.

Thanks for you advice!

So, Jaguar Assist came today and removed these fellas from my suspension:

He seemed surprised they had been left on.
Did a test drive over some bumps...problem fixed!
