Aftermarket Alloys - fitment

Post by h11pyd » Thu Nov 29, 2018 6:33 pm

I am looking at getting some aftermarket alloys and have my eye on a set of Judd T311R’s. I’ve been advised to fit 19x8.5 et45 front and back, but the T311R has a much nicer look when it is 9.5 wide, so was hoping to fit 19x9.5 et45 on the back - does anyone have experience of whether this will fit?

I can answer my own question now - I took a risk that they’d fit and can confirm that 19x8.5 et45 fits nicely on the front and 19x9.5 et45 is right at the limit of what you’d want to fit on the rear, any wider and the tyre would be beyond the bodywork.

Not the best pics because daylight is fading!

Slimmer black wheel nuts on order. The rear is very wide and has a nice concave look to it :D

They certainly fill the arches well and look like nice wheels, I especially like the colour, so much better than the current trend for black :D

Thanks, they’re gloss gunmetal. I’ll get some better pics up when I have a chance and once the wheelnuts have been swapped out.

I think they look fabulous - suit the car well. I like the colour and finish of them.

They look dangerously borderline. Are you sure they are all definitely inside the wheel arch? Has has to be a minimum 3rd of the circumference of the wheel inside the arch, not just the very top so if the bodywork curves in it still has to cover it. Look very smart mind.

The spokes look very vulnerable to kerbs. Also the Judd website claims the wheels are not suitable for the XE. Be careful, check with your insurance company.

All suppliers I contacted said they wouldn’t fit; they’d probably say the same about any 9.5j wheel but the fitment is no different to fitting 25mm spacers to the standard wheels which others on here have done.

The ‘rules’ seem vague on the subject of sticking out beyond the arch - from what I can find you cannot have any tread visible when viewed from directly above, but tyre sidewall and wheel is ok up to 30mm beyond the arch (hence the euro-look of stretched tyres). When I view mine from above I cannot see any tread. If I encounter a picky MOT tester I’ll stick the originals back on!
