Jaguar XE 2016 - Sensor Issue - ABS, AEB, FWD Alert, ASPC, ACC, DSC/Traction Broken

Post by JaguarXECrappy » Tue Aug 25, 2020 6:30 pm

Hi All,

Second post about XE 2016 Model.

Lights coming up on dashboard (ABS/AEB/FWD Alert/ASPC/ACC/DSC/Traction), this first occurred while driving. I had the car about a year at this point. It was intermittent at first, and seemed to reset if I turned car engine off then turned it back on.

After a week it remained illuminated all the time regardless of turn offs. I lived with it for about 4 weeks as I wasn't travelling for work much then took a "how hard can this be" approach. Looking into the wheel arch I found (front passenger wheel) a sensor had come loose, and dangling. I couldn't find where it latches/plugs in so ended up taping it to closest harness that was also hold this same wire, this fixed the issue.

For about 5 months all has been swell then last week they illuminated again.... Checked the sensor which is still taped tort to the harness so not that, took it into Kwik Fit for a diagnostics they thought sensors were OK. They sent me this link (coincidentally I had known about this link from before but my DYI/hack-n-slash worked so go figure). The link depicts a shoddy design which meant water will build up in the hub causing the issues and the way around this is to drill a hole into the hub for drainage: https://pmmonline.co.uk/technical/abs-w ... luminated/.

Called JLR Harwards (with alot more detail) asking if they are familiar with this issue and would they be able fix it. they straight up said they'd replace the sensor for £200 no diagnostics needed or anything. I've asked whether it was necessary to replace and spend this given that I've also read reviews online where replacing sensors does sweet Franky Abott about the design flaw in the housing.

Anyway, trying to phone around the various JLR specialists to see if anyone has done the cosmetics before and can beat Harwards price as I don't particularly want to give them any money given that they have frankly been the worst automotive services department I've ever dealt with.

I'll report back when I get the issue sorted and what it was. In the meantime if anyone has had/seen similar please let me know.

This was an issue with a few 2016 models.
There is a technical bulletin which needs drainage holes drilling AND the sensors replacing.
In the case of one or two members, dealers either did one or the other which didn't fix things.
Quite a few topics on this using the search box with input of "ABS sensor" or similar.
Topic here with the technical reference:

Mine on my 16 plate were drilled just after I bought the car in 2018. I checked topix and saw the recall so got them to do the job before I picked the car up.

Parking pack fitted but not used.

Did have two X Types, a 2.5L then a 2.2L Auto with the dreaded DPF. No more DPF's for me.

Thanks for reply guys, update; looks like the electronic might be more goose then first thought, TPS light is also illuminates 24/7 bit tyre are at f 44 b 46. And if the light level is set to auto, and you push it forward for bright beam, that does not work and the blue bright beam icon doesn't come up o n dashboard. But if it's manually turned to brightbeam it does show up.

Reversing camera and sensors and speed limiter still working though. So I guess I'm lucky 😁.

Those tyre pressures are the heavy load pressures, is the car set to heavy load? If not, that'll flag up the TPS warning.

In Auto the main beam will only come on using the stalk if it's dark enough for the dipped beams.
Are you sure the dipped beams were active at the time?
It would explain why it worked ok after manually selecting the dipped beam.

Looks like ABS stuff might be covered by RAC warranty, going to find out this week.

For the TPS.... set to heavy load, but after a week of 20 min drives I went for a long 2.5hour drive and it disappeared from dash and hasn't come back so may have reset itself(?)

For the lights.... it's a weird one. Driving one night with auto on nothing would happen (apart from the side LEDs), and when pushing arm away for high beams nothing but flicking it towards me did put high beams on. That said the warranty diagnostics came back and they couldn't fault the lights.

Luckily I've found this RAC warranty place which seems to be legit and experienced.

The Harwoods was Harwoods Brighton which is now closed down. I rang them 6 times over 3 weeks to try and get quotes for diagnostics, parts and labour. They took my number down over the phone each time and I'm in their system, I tried through both reception and services numbers. Even sent couple of emails showing the links to the known issue too.

Essentially no-one was ever available in services so they said "They'd call back" never did.

Once Brighton shutdown the numbers were diverted to Lewes branch. Lovely lady took my number, took the details of faults, and got back to me on email same day.

Only issue is it's £2000+ of work without giving any garentee that if issues persisted they would fix it without charging double. Which gets my goat given that it's a product flaw and safety related.

I've dug out the warranty and realised it's platinum RAC warranty which says "all parts electrical and mechanical". Completely disheartened with Jags and the brand in general though, once it's all fixed I'll keep it until new year then chop it is for a Volvo or Toyota.

Be careful with Volvo as one of their models has been declared the most troublesome of the year. I work on aircraft but we have a varied amount of vehicles and all have faults from time to time and they are usually electrical.

All cars have their problems.
My sister has just been quoted around £2000 to correct advisories on her 2014 Toyota Yaris which has done 22000 miles and has full toyota service history. Two front struts, front brakes and some front bushes all caused by corrosion.
She lives in Scottish Borders but doesnt use it when the weather is bad as her other car is a Mitsubishi 4 x4.
I don’t think there is a brand out there which doesn’t have similar bad press on the many forums out there unfortunately.
