Looking to purchase an XE S

Post by JBXES » Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:57 am

Morning guys,

I am a long term fan of the marque having owned 5 Jaguars and am currently looking into trading my 2011 XF S for a 340 PS XE S. My main questions are:

What is the average fuel economy members have been achieving? I am achieving about 36/37 in my XF at present but I can afford a bit of a drop in all honesty, I am only doing 5k miles a year now.

I am going to be looking at an earlier car, (65 plate ish onwards) so are there any things above the normal XE foibles I should be looking for?

Cheers,

Jamie

I’m getting around 24 to 28 mpg but usually closer to the 24 mark as most of my driving is in peak hour city traffic. On a good country run it will get as good as 30. We are fortunate to have cheaper fuel here with premium unleaded at around AUD 1.45 per litre (around £0.80) although this fluctuates a bit and can get as high as AUD 1.70 per litre (around £0.94)

I used to get about 34-35 on my 2015 S on a motorway run at the usual speeds.
Urban and local driving took that down to the low to mid 20's.
Shouldn't have any problems as most of the early issues were minor electrical gremlins caused by loose earths etc.
Plus it isn't a diesel and has an electric boot so no bumper marking!
It should be pretty much sorted.

Thank you both for your replies. I had forgotten about the electric boot on S model which a nice little option. The MPG figures were what I was expecting and quite respectable given the performance available! My old XK was less with less performance, how technology marches on! Looking at one in the coming weeks at my local dealer which is coming in as a part ex, so will see how that checks out.

PhilB-both of your two S's look great, I have seen them in the owners gallery. I briefly drove a 380 PS model at a dealer event and was very impressed by the amount of power. Would you say the build is better on the latter car?

There seemed to be a slightly better build quality when production moved from Solihull to Castle Bromwich some time back.
Not saying it was bad on my first one at all. Panel gaps were very good and no rattles or squeaks.
Little things like the interior parts of the door not normally seen had a sort of satin "blow-over" whereas on the later one it looks far more glossy.
Might be the placebo effect but panel lines are very tight and again, no rattles or squeaks!

Thanks Phil, all pretty minor stuff. I would have thought then anything MY17 would be CB build. From what I can see most if not all MY16 cars are Solihull build.
