Paint Chips (Road Rash)

Post by Rushy » Mon Nov 16, 2015 6:58 pm

Ten week old XE Prestige 200ps Auto Odyssey Red 1,500 miles mostly local. I wash the car every week, a couple of weeks ago I noticed very bad chipping ( more like pebble dashing) on the rear sill where it bows out around the rear doors. Visited two independent body repairs today who said this is a bad design fault and Jaguar should have covered this area with anti chip film, looks like the two area`s will have to be painted and anti chip film fitted. Not a happy Jaguar owner, any one having the same problem?.

Hi all, following on from my original post re-stone chips to rear sills the car has now been repainted. Just returned from Warrington having had the 3m anti stone chip film fitted, fantastic product at a very reasonable price- can`t tell its on the car- would highly recommend this company.

www.invisiblepatterns.co.uk speak to Russell he is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Sorry i have no pics
The anti chip film is clear self adhesive plastic similar to cling film, BMW and a lot of the top end manufactures use it on similar sill designs to the XE

Yes i noticed this aswell i had only done 2000 miles at the time and i thought this was quite bad for that amount of miles imagine what it would look like at 20- 30 k miles ... i also noticed it just behind the front wheels and where the black side skirt meets the bodywork at the rear it sort of funnels the stones to this area.
I told my dealer about it and as mine was in the paint shop for a minor defect they sprayed the side skirts as a good will gesture too which i said it still doesnt fix the problem, all they could do is send in a report to jaguar about the issue, but im guessing untill theres enough reports they wont do anything, i asked about the chip film but apparently they dont do the film for the xe yet. my best suggestion is get it logged down with your dealer for future reference just incase they try and sting you if and when you hand it back or trade in or for when it looks like its been sand blasted.
P.s the film is just a clear car wrap from 3M you usually cannot see it when its on

Guess I'll be using this sooner than I thought

However I have had mud flaps fitted so fingers crossed they might mitigate the problem :?:

I've got quite a bad stone chip to the right sill moulding. I had thought maybe it was just a stone from a passing car. I've ordered a touch up pencil and might look at getting some 3M film fitted.

I also fitted front mudflaps as the front wheels seem to just throw everything they drive over at the side sills.

My car was fitted with mudflaps by the dealer FOC as part of the deal along with rubber boot mat. (worth around £240 at Jaguars prices)

The R sport mud flaps seem to cover quite a bit of the tyre...should be anough to protect bodywork.... I would have thought anyway?!

About 12 years ago I had this "paint protection film" fitted on my X Type. It was excellent. They did the work at my house and were very quick and thorough.

I'm contacting them re the side skirts etc.

I have asked my dealer about the R Sport mud flaps/splash guards and they think they are a good idea so I will probably get them fitted.
