It depends how steep the hill is. I suppose you could always put your left foot on the brake until you have enough power to move the car up the hill.

This has come up before and there still seems to be confusion.

A "normal" auto box like we have on the XE will hold on a hill (any hill!) without the brake.
It is a good test of the health of an auto box that it won't roll back on a hill when in D.

The confusion seems to be with some of the newer twin clutch etc "autos" that do need hill start braking etc.

Don't worry!
The next time you are on a hill in D just ease off the brakes and unless the box has a fault it should stay there.

So I have now understood it all as clear as mud. Recapping, switch the radio to DAB and then the autobox will hold on a hill in "D".

PhilB - just tried mine on a steep hill, in Drive with no break or accelerator the car rolls back, once hill start assist has released.
With hill start assist I have plenty of time to get to the accelerator after releasing epb so see no problem with this

Where is the hill start assist button?
I thought it was impossible for an auto gearbox in drive to roll back?!!?

GSB - hill start assist is automatic, it holds car stationary on a hill for a short time after you take your foot off the brake.
It gives you time to press accelerator or start releasing clutch

For the last two years a had this problem, didn’t know why ?
Until I read on the internet it’s your cars usb phone charger or Dashcam cable connection interferes with the dab radio signal.
As soon I took my phone charger off then my problem was solved.
If that doesn’t work, try taking the dash cam off
Hope this helps
