How to work out if a car has Adaptive Speed Limiting?

Post by SPARTAN117 » Sat Aug 03, 2019 10:02 pm

Hi All,

Trying to work out whether my car has the adaptive speed limiter that changes based on the road signs,

This is probably a stupid question but how do I know if my car has this?

Cheers in advance

I think you will have to look in the menu under driving features.
If you have the speed limit displayed on the dash I think you can at least set a warning that tells you off if you go over it.
The manual might be able to help.

Be warned if you have "Speed sign" information set it can be very wrong so don't rely on it if you have any auto settings.

Oh I don't know, mine shows a black circle with a white diagonal when on my drive. I'm sure that's right. I don't know my own limits!

My previous XE showed the speed limit going right through the centre of Slough (30 mph) as 70 mph!
I think it was a sign on the side of a take-away that confused it.

Mine has the adaptive limiter, but I'm not sure I'd want it switched on, as far too often the road sign detector picks up roadwork speed limits, or the limits on side roads....

Probably not what you want on a 50-limit set of motorway roadworks, with a 44-tonner jockey trying to read your map display, just as you go past a site speed limit sign :o

It is things like that which convince me that autonomous driving cars are further away than some people would like!

As a result of this thread I've just discovered mine has the adaptive limiter. I'll enable it and see how it goes, full manual overide is only a pedal press away :D

Don't forget there's Adaptive cruise control and a speed limiter/adaptive speed limiter on some cars which are different things.

Outward sign if you have adaptive cruise control, is if you have front camera, which from front is a clear plaster bit around front grille badge
Adaptive limiter speed control uses camera in rear view mirror assembly.

I believe that camera to be part of the adaptive cruise control, which I absolutely don't have.
