Approved used warranty

Post by DaveL » Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:57 am

When did this change from two years to one year?

Apparently so.
The approved used warranty is going down to 1 year for cars bought from Sept 1st onwards.

Would I have bought my Xe with only a years warranty? I'm not sure I would have. I believe the new cars come with 3 years warranty, so the million dollar question is what do JLR mean by "at least a years warranty"?

Midnight Friday it changed apparently as a cost cutting measure and in line with other prestige manufacturers warranties. I’m sure the 2 years was a huge incentive for buyers too, I know it was me.

I'm assuming if a Approved Used car is bought at 1 year old, a 2 year warranty applies. For cars older than 2 years, then a 1 year warranty would be in place. It would be good to get a definitive answer ie the car is warranted to at least the 3 year old mark or 1 year from date of sale if that goes past the 3 years.

All the more reason to buy a nearly new Stinger with balance of 7 year warranty?

Yes for example so I see it as a 1.5 yo car you’d get the remainder of the manufacturers warranty so 1.5 years and a 2.5 yo car you’d get the 1 year. This may suggest why Jaguar are now emphasing a ‘minimum’ of 1 year warranty on approved used cars.

Would it be right though that if you bought the car privately, rather than from a non- jaguar dealer, the remainder of the warranty would be transferred? i.e. the 1.5 years.

I can't see why the original warranty won't be transferred, once Jaguar have proof of ownership, V5 etc. There are non Jaguar dealers advertising cars with the balance of original warranty remaining.

When I bought an XJ from a non Jaguar dealer in 2011 the main Jaguar dealer refused to honour the Jaguar warranty as the car had been bought from a non Jaguar dealer. (I did get the cost back from selling dealer eventually). Beware, I think all makes do this, unless you buy privately.
