Main Dealer or Independant Service?

Post by Craigdm » Tue Oct 08, 2019 5:30 pm

My 65 plate XE is ready for it's service (the first while in my possession).

Just had the price through and I was a little shocked.

£540 for the service and another £280 for the rear brake pads (which were picked up as low when they had the car 9 months ago for some warranty work).

Having defected from Mercedes I was surprised to hear these sort of figures.

Now considering finding an independent specialist to give me a price.

Anyone wish to comment on the prices I have been given, or recommend a good specialist in the Blackpool/Preston area?

Can‘t recommend anyone in your area but the average price for a service by an independent specialist seems to be around £270 according to what’s been reported on here.

£170 for the 3rd year service at Jag Specialist near Doncaster.
Rear brake pads were £144.
That was in June this year.
Mines petrol. A diesel may be different price (fuel filter). If that's what you have

It seems a bit expensive when quotes for 3+ on the XF diesel are £225 for an interim and £385 for a major - this is the main dealer price. Rear brake pads are £135 or £175 including sensors £325 for pads and discs or £365 with sensors included. I really don’t understand their pricing as a 5 year service plan on my diesel cost £599.

Ran the valuations through a car buying site and it didn't make any difference between Dealer Service History and Mixed Service History.

With that in mind I've decided to save £300 and booked it into a place called JagMan based near Wigan. I will report back on my thoughts.

Hi, Not wanting to pay the exorbitant dealer prices for servicing. It’s shocking that the new service plans don’t save any money and is just a saving plan. I’m looking for an independent garage in the north Wolverhampton area, I have found MVS (Mobile Vehicle Services) in Essington just north of Wolverhampton and wondered if anyone had experience of using them for servicing they state they use genuine manufacturer parts etc. I’m due the 105k service soon and the dealer wants £1500, MVS are quoting in the region of £500. Any help appreciated.

have my jag xe booked in to inchape norwich for 2nd service plua brake fluid change in a few weeks price is £506 service and £65 for brake fluid change. This is the first service since buying the jag so hope they will do all software updates for the car, now if i book it into an independent jag garage will they do all the software updates to or just the service. Any one used them or other garages in norfolk cheers
