HeeHee..... Have to hold my hand up to playing with a BMW 630, sitting on my rear number plate, on the way back on the A41, NO CONTEST. he backed off on the twisty bits. That 'might' account for the loss off a bit of MPG. ;) Who cares though, it was fun.

I have to say, the A41 there is good for that sort of thing... :)

It is impressive the number of folks that want to read your speedo from their driving seat on the straight bits, but drop back very rapidly on the fun bits
This is one of my favorite bits about the Jag XE. You can comfortably do the speed limit with some muppet hanging on your bumper, but as soon as you go into the twisty bits they bottle it and the Jag just sticks forever! :P

Just got down to Oxfordshire. The second segment of the journey I did 177 miles at an average of 60.0mph with an economy of 48.7mpg. There was a lot of roadworks and the final 60 odd miles I was really conserving fuel!

The first segment was 295 miles at 56mph and 41.5mpg. I brimmed the tank at home and was determined to reach my destination without topping up. Made it with 21 miles range showing! :)

You are supposed to put the brick over the loud pedal, not under it!

The best I've managed in mine on any sort of sizeable run was 43.4 mpg at an average of 40mph over about 55 miles

That was a run from Knutsford services home, stuck in slow but moving roadworks - the adaptive cruise really helps with that....

Since I got the beast, I've averaged about 30.5 mpg over 10.5k miles, which starts with the same digit as my previous diesel Insipid (39.4mpg over 77k miles), so I'm not actually unhappy, especially as the smiles per gallon factor is much better in the Jag

I find that I can hit about 60-61 during the first part of my commute, but once into the city centre that’s dropping to about 56MPG, and drop another few MPG going up the multi story car park as it’s pretty much impossible to not be on 12-17mpg for those few minutes.

Average tends to be around 45MPG, based on more local driving than I would normally doing. Average is similar to my 2.0 TDI A4 that I had, even if individual trips can easily outdo what it did on the motorway - Maybe the auto box isn’t great (even in Eco mode) in city driving, so perhaps that’s where the Audi (Manual) was making up for things

More evidence of sloping terrain..... darn sowf to Aylesbury 114 miles, average 54mph, 65mpg..... return oop norf 114miles, 55mph, 59mpg

My best to date was the week after I got the car. Driving up the M6 to Manchester we were stuck in the average speed check area north of Stafford pretty much all the way t o the Manchester turn off. With an average speed of 48 mph we averaged 59.8 mpg over 85.6 miles - not seen anything like that since.

Best way to take a long term average is to record mileage and the number of litres bought over a long period. in my first £10k miles, the car has averaged 41.69mpg, which to be honest, i thought was disappointing. Prior to the XE and by way of a comparison, i had an F-Pace 2.0d (180). For its first 10k miles, it averaged 42.04 mpg; over 3 years and 72,000 miles, it averaged 42.22mpg. I expected the XE to be much better than this.

Well I'm happy with the economy I've achieved. Final segment was Oxfordshire to South London 79 miles at an average of 42mph and 39.6mpg. This segment had a bit more fun (full tank!) but also traffic, roadworks, M25 and urban roads. This all was with 3 people in the car and another 100kg or so of luggage. Not too shabby! :)

My XE is AWD with the 2 litre 200PS diesel engine, and just like my two previous cars, (XJs X350 model), I just let the trip counter run so I get a good idea of overall fuel consumption over the months. I have never bettered 46 mpg, and I don't do a lot of short journeys either, although inevitably I have to do some. I think the AWD does affect fuel consumption, even though the front drive wheels are not powered all that often, so it must just be the drag of the extra gear train.
