Attention all you with keyless entry!

Post by Nuttyspark » Wed May 06, 2020 8:20 am

Wasn't sure where to post this but I've just seen that from tomorrow Aldi are selling the key pouches at £4.99 for 2. ;)

Sounds daft, but when my brother-in-law was asking which case I'd got for my keys, he hadn't considered that he'd need to buy two so that he had one to keep his spare key in.....

Top tip!
Always buy two as you have a spare case for when your original starts losing it's effectiveness (they do eventually).
A cheap and effective solution for your spare key is to wrap it in a couple of layers of kitchen alu foil and put it away.
It works perfectly!

...I go the kitchen foil route, works perfectly. I'd get the Aldi ones as a backup but I'll have to pass due to the lockdown.

I’ve bought these pouches (not from Aldi kind you) and so glad I did after a recent spat of thefts in the relatively local area.

Just checking, but I assume the cars in ‘danger’ are those with keyless entry only? A car with normal entry but keyless start isn’t as susceptible to that kind of theft? Just wondering if the wife’s car needs a couple of pouch’s too.

You are correct. The other sort requires the press of a button to unlock (ie a physical action), whereas true keyless work on a continuous signal and so can be relayed

A steel key safe or even a steel biscuit tin are completely effective ways to store you keys indoors. Unlike a hinged pouch, it won't wear out and start to leak radio waves. You can test the effectiveness of the chosen receptacle by putting your key in it and taking it up to the car. If it still unlocks, you need a better shielded container!
