4 months in long stay car park.

Post by KingAlfred » Sat May 30, 2020 5:40 pm

Please could somebody post an aide memoire of all the steps that I will need to take when I eventually return to the UK in July, after a 4 months unintended overseas stay, assuming that the car will have a flat battery. I have already established that the airport has a battery booster pack available.

You may be lucky and it has enough juice left to open the door so you can pop the bonnet.
If not you will have to take out the blade metal key from the fob and use that to gain entry.
(Details of that are in the online manual https://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/ ).
You will need to jump start under the bonnet using the positive under the red cover and the negative on the bolt on the top of the suspension turret.

I wouldn't be surprised if the car actually starts - but it's only a hunch. I would be tempted to re-join an emergency breakdown company, AA/RAC etc. You might need to phone them in advance and be honest about the situation you are in so that they don't feel that they are being ripped off. If you already have cover, then I would imagine you would be OK. Having a battery booster pack and getting the car started are two very different things if your knowledge of cars is average.

I recovered the car, almost 21 weeks after leaving it and it started first time!

So much for flaky batteries eh ?
This might allay some of the fears as it proves the car can shut down and sleep for longer periods provided there's no drain.
Well done!

I am very impressed but not totally surprised, the system does seem to go to sleep quite well. My son's F-Type is regularly going four weeks at a time without being started and all has been OK so far.

But the piece de resistance is his DS3 daily driver which he had to leave up here in Scotland because his main home is in the Manchester area and he got locked out of coming north again until this weekend, and it started first time on 26th July and it was parked up on 19th March and, it's eight years old on it's original battery!
