Service costs

Post by xeMan » Tue Jun 23, 2020 4:15 pm

Hi,

new to the forum(s) so bear with me please.

I'm interested to know more about service costs. I've just been quoted £500+ for my second service at just over 30k miles, 16reg

How does that sound/compare to the experiences of others here?

Thanks in advance

About half that at an independent Jag specialist and probably a more thorough job too

Appreciate the quick response, presume independents can handle updates etc? how do you find such people, Mr. Google? (other search engines are available)

£500 sounds a bit OTT to me. However, you need to find out what they will be doing for that. If it's just an oil and filter change, which is all my car has had for the last three services, then you should be able to get that for well under £300. Can you try another dealer for a quote at least? I think you will find they do vary.

I thought that jaguar dealers had added the XE to fixed price servicing.

Yeah xe 3 years and older is available on the fixed price servicing. Should be a lot cheaper than £500 !! Who and where are quoting that extortionate price? Is your car a diesel/petrol or a xe s ?

Just used the online booking through the Jaguar website and the prices don't appear to be much of a bargain to me.

I would just go for a local garage once out of warranty.

My cars first service was done at Jaguar after 21K miles, the second service though was done by the garage that I bought from (technically this was probably a couple months late but it was sat on their forecourt for a couple months anyway, and they gave it the works before I picked it up) - I do worry this will affect resale value as they can’t update the online service history as they aren’t registered with jaguar. I am almost tempted to get the service re-done by somebody who can just to maintain a full service history.

I miss when it was just a stamp in a book! There was no physical book provided with my car.

I read somewhere that you can send a copy of the service invoice to jaguar via email and they'll add it to the record.

I think that is still the case and this link explains more: http://www.independentgarageassociation ... ords_2.pdf

My view is we instinctively value a full dealer history when in reality a good independent can be just as good if not better. As for keeping a record of services, if an indie can’t access the Jaguar systems then what is wrong with keeping an itemised receipt covering the service. Additionally many indies now offer a "service book" into which they place their stamp. Frankly I'm not keen on paying a Jag tech £20 to undo a nut when an indie will charge £5 to undo the self same nut! My advice, go to a good indie and stop getting mugged off by the brand.
