Key Fob Issues

Post by 97obw » Sun Jul 19, 2020 8:58 pm

I accidentally submerged my fob in a pool. The car will still start by placing the fob near the steering column-does this mean it will not require reprogramming? All other functions do not work. I currently have it pulled apart and drying.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Never done this before, but have you put it in rice?

Best thing to try is leave in rice and see if it still works. The fact the contactless start is at least working is a cause for hope at least

Was able to confirm the car will still start without the battery in the fob (by holding it up to the ignition). I’m not sure if this confirms no new programming is needed. The ignition was able to recognize the key for a moment while the buttons still didn’t work. Perhaps they won’t notice upon lease turn in :/

Maybe the battery has shorted out whilst under water, try a new one.

Take the key covers off , remove the battery and blast the board.with a warm hair dryer, just in case there's any moisture in/under any of the components.
