Thanks all, I think I’ll buy a bottle and top up little and often so there’s no chance if overfilling then.

Anything to avoid (shelf life thing aside) when buying AdBlu or is it all the same?
It is supposed to be all the same stuff to the relevant ISO spec but you never know these days. You can't even trust labels. Suggest you buy it from a retailer who shiifts it regularly. I always used Halfords and never had any problems but Asda, Screwfix, Toolstation etc sell it too. Any of those should be fine.

Because the 163's had a smaller tank I'd definitely wait until there was maybe 500 miles range left before putting 5l in. The problem with overfilling is that the level sensor is an ultrasonic type that needs an air gap to function correctly. Overfill, and that submerges the sensor, then JLR open your wallet!

Update....
I let it run down to 900 miles then topped up with roughly 4 litres of a bottle I got from Halfords. Don’t want to risk overfilling hence only 4 litres...
However, I now start the car up and still get all the warning messages and it still say 900 miles to go till empty.... help?!?

I have kept the XE topped up as in the method reported by user 723 and have not had any problems so far in 4.5 years. My driving is a bit restricted at present due to Covid 19 so not many trips from my base.

Sometimes it takes a while for the level to re-set. Give it a day or 2 and a few dozen miles.
