Stolen :(
Re: Stolen :(
What is showing as the latest journey on your InControl home page?

I know what's wrong and if I could find it I'd fix it.

If I had a really nickable car (and a few £ spare) I would invest in one of these systems. They were well known on the BMW forums:

Re: Stolen :(
It shows a trip to the end of my street & then the travel line goes off the road straight through a couple of rows of houses to an adjacent street, and that’s where it says the car is. It also says the journey length was 1.9 miles when the reported end location is probably 0.2 miles away at most
Re: Stolen :(
I believe a lot of the time, these scrotes park it up nearby and leave it a couple of days, to see if it has a tracker fitted.

Re: Stolen :(
That is very worrying. Might be worth an official enquiry to JLR to get their view on how the security system and location data has been so easily defeated.Stolenjag wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 6:19 pmIt shows a trip to the end of my street & then the travel line goes off the road straight through a couple of rows of houses to an adjacent street, and that’s where it says the car is. Re: Stolen :(
Where does incontrol get the distance from? If it's from the car (Odometer) rather than the gps then the car could be parked within that 1.9 miles, possibly in a container.

Re: Stolen :(
Incontrol uses GPS to show the location of the car the last time it was shut down.
That's the problem with people assuming it can be used like a tracker.
Firstly it's not "live" as in you can't see where it is whilst in motion.
Secondly if it's put somewhere with a poor GPS signal it can't transmit it's location to the JLR servers.

Re: Stolen :(
I know it uses gps for location but as was mentioned earlier incontrol showed a 1.9mile trip for a location less than half a mile away. Incontrol seems to have contact with the car but no gps signal.

Re: Stolen :(
The distance away is a direct line.
Perhaps it drove 1-9 miles and ended up half a mile away.
The fact it isn't there anymore could be that they have disabled the GPS and/or put it in a lorry which could block any signals.
These people aren't stupid and will disable anything that could lead to the car being found as soon as they can.

Re: Stolen :(
Oh dear what a wretched business, sorry for you and to hear this, i'm disappointed how easy it was to steal. I would have been sure the incontrol tracker would have worked but the little b*st***s have bypassed it, I think the car for the first few days wasn't far away and will probably have been left to see if a tracker finds it. I'm hust so shocked that a premioum car was so easy to get into. I too keep my key in a 'Faraday' cage but even that is ineffective, which is disappointing.
When I bought my car I took out GAP insurance which would give me back the price as new... it's up in April but I'm thinking I might renew it! It is something worth thinking about when you get your insurance sorted and a new car. Good luck and keep us posted.
