Major service price

Post by Ian0304 » Sun Mar 07, 2021 5:10 pm

Hi all. Car in for its 4 year/40k service Wednesday Inchcape Preston and I’ve negotiated £450 including a brake fluid change. Farnell Bolton slightly more expensive. Anybody been quoted any cheaper so I can ask the question? 2.0d 240bhp 👍🏻

Maybe try a independent Jaguar specialist. I’ve just had my second year service done at one and saved over £100 and they updated the OSH.

An independent shop will invariably be cheaper, due to a lower labour charge, the average is around £65, the main agents at £100+ per hour, and will not charge so much for the oil. You would need to check to see if the indie can update the On-line Service History, as there is no longer a service book. I took out a service plan with the local main agent here in Crewe, (only a mile from my house). I will be having a service in May, and then I may have a think about what to do. I believe the main agent service plans have increased substantially in cost, so it will be a break point, with the car at 4 years old.

Did think about an independent but I’m going to stick with the dealership as may get a better px price when I come to swap it and also more likely to complete any warranty work if full dealer history. Cheers 👍🏻

I very much doubt you'd get a better PX price, but if a car remains in the main agent network for service and repairs, Jaguar are probably much more willing to show goodwill when things happen after the warranty runs out. Once car leaves the manufacturer's dealer network, you're on your own, basically. Of course one can always buy an insurance-based warranty as I have done.

I agree. I have had a couple of small jobs done FOC out of warranty.

Warranty would be honoured till it expires but anything need doing after that I would use the independent garage anyway. It’ll be half the cost of main dealer price. But each to there own. 👍

Yes agree with the points. It’s under an approved used Jaguar warranty until October so I’m willing to pay the extra costs of a dealership service then I may consider the independents. Thanks all.

Well I've just dropped mine off for it's 40,000 odd mile service this morning . It's only done 12,000 odd miles of which I've only done 1,200 miles. £453 .

They asked if I would like a courtesy wash and vacuum clean which I accepted . Might as well give them something to do !

2016 XE 2.0 litre turbo Caesium blue, ivory leather interior. Electric towbar.

I haven't had much of a chance to get used to it but I do love the way it drives and I find the seating position very comfortable . I found that driving on a very cold morning that it misted up a lot . So much so that a warning light came on saying that the front camera , just up by the interior mirror couldn't see a thing !
Managed 38 mpg on a long run .

The OP has a reasonable price when you price up the oil and gen Jag filters. I priced the oil and parts. Gen Jaguar parts just over £100. That is all filters and then add in the cabin sterilisation now being done at another £10. Oil from Opie @ £110 plus oddments such as greases for bonnet catches, brake fluid around £30 (2 ltrs to allow for bleeding) brake cleaner etc plus oddments such as greases for bonnet catches, possibly another £10 ish and you are looking at £230 then the time to do it. I have been quoted £360 inc MOT and £55 for brake fluid. That will do me at the dealers as it is a similar price to other makes.
