Worth mentioning and I will say that the website has changed a bit since I very first posted. There is an update section that you can sign up to and DVLA send an email if anything alters. I got an update notification yesterday but dumped it as I had mine done. I wish I had looked at it as it may have been that notification to clarify things regarding the August deadline.

For info. My car was 3 years old on 1st June. It was automatically issued with an MOT "PASS" at the end of May which expired on 30th November.

Just been on the vehicle enquiry service web page: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status
Mine should have been MOT'd April 11th this year but is still currently showing as not needing an MOT until October 10th.

Exactly they are being credited with 6 months MOT. This applies to any car which had a current MOT or would be due for its first MOT.

As far as I was aware the extension was only 6 months from the end of March until August any way and those running out in July would only be extended to August. I think that the Government website has been misunderstood by many.

Not quite true. My dear old Mum's car MOT was due 14th June, now showing as due 14th Dec.

Including Autocar and the news media then?
I only mentioned it in case anybody had seen the news yesterday.

I also see the Gov website was updated yesterday (29th June) to clarify about MOT's after the 1st August so there may well have been some confusion.
The other day I got a notification from the Know Your Car app that my wife’s MOT will be extended to 26th Jan 2021. I’ll keep an eye on it, but according to that it does get extended past August

Just went in to re-check now and it’s still showing end of July at the moment, so will keep an eye on it

Go to the government website to clarify the end of the extension.

My car is 3 years old on the 4th July, just checked the DVLA website and the MOT due date has been extended to the 3rd January.

A back up check to confirm things can be done via the car tax checker website which also shows MOT's including when due.

If your MOT expires up to and including 31 July you’ll get a six month extension but if it expires 1 August onwards you’ll have to get it tested (within one day of expiry or up to a month before).
