NHS APP

Post by BOBCDP » Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:03 am

Who else has been bloody annoyed that the Government have come up with an App (eventually) that could be very useful especially to older people in the community, but an app that is not available for phones more than a few years old?

I use my Iphone 6 for quaint things like making calls, sending texts and whatsapping etc. I don't need or want every new gismo that is available and will only run on version IOS 1 million. I am pretty sure most older people are exactly the same and don't change phones every 5 minutes. So the bright sparks at Apple and Google produce an app which I can't have unless I buy a new phone. And the government let them get away with what to me is a glaring example of the phone companies seeing a big opportunity to flog more of their overpriced products. Grrrrrrr!!! Well I for one will not be buying a new phone. :x :x :x

I downloaded and used the app yesterday. Because it uses Bluetooth I turn off the contact tracing option and bluetooth, when not out and about, to save battery, it allows this for up to 12 hours and then pops up reminders to turn it on again. So due to the way it works, it could be a bit battery hungry if you need it always active. Tried to scan a QR code at the place visited yesterday, which didn't seem to work. But it may have been due to the absence of a mobile signal indoors. The app is OK but there are some quirks.

BOBCDP, I have an IPhone 6s and that connects to the app OK. I updated it yesterday and it is still working the NHS app. I thought the "s" was just the size rating?

I thought the 6s was just larger too. But there must be some software differences as well. I’m on IOS 12 something and mine is up to date but you have to IOS 13 for the app. I then found a list somewhere of what will and won’t work and the 6 is a non starter. Just have to avoid the Trumps and hope for the best. 😬😬😬

The iPhone models with an "S" are an update, it doesn't refer to the size. The bigger screen uses the word "plus". E.G iPhone 6 and 6 Plus came out at the same time. They were replaced by the 6s and 6s Plus etc.
