Well done, Jaguar!
So much for vaunted German quality!

German quality is a bit of a fantasy. It cannot be the quality of the mechanics or the drive, but the quality of the finish in the cabin that the press must be referring to. I've had one German car, an Audi A4. Nice to look at but one of the most unreliable cars I have owned and a terrible drive. I've had a couple of minor issues with my XE but all resolved. Perhaps the quality in the cabin isn't quite as good as the German cars, but the Jag mechanics and drive quality takes some beating.

I'm perfectly happy with the cabin quality of my MY20 and, like you say, the drive quality is a cut above that of BMWs and Audis I've tried.
Re: Fancy that, Jaguar didn't get here
Yes, overall engineering and drive quality is pretty high on the XE (and I guess other Jags), though this doesn't seem to recognised by the UK media who seem to love to denigrate the UK. As Stephen says, the cabin quality in the MY20 XEs is really excellent and the ergonomics of the climate and heated seat controls is much improved.
Now, if Jaguar could just fix the remaining less important but niggling issues (eg the infotainment system and its glitches) things would be perfect!

No Alfa Romeos on there either and they are also often slated for their reliability.
I have rather a soft spot for Alfas, having had a modified 147 for 7 years in the past. I would love a Giulia Quadrifoglio but they are a bit out of my price range - maybe one day

Nice to read something positive about Jag.
I’ve had my other, much older jag a long time. It’s an XJ40 which when current, had an awful reputation for quality.
In the 11/12 years I’ve had the ‘40 (3 of which it was my daily driver) it’s only ever let me down once and it’s never been to a garage for repairs!
I’ve had a few German cars and they need plenty of TLC to keep them going in my experience. My A4 that I bought at 1 year old was a beautiful car and the interior was the best screwed together I’ve ever come across! But somehow I never loved that car, nor the BMW’s I’ve had.

Same here Stephen, had various cars over last 40 years, some great drives and reliability, some less so. My XE is by far the best car I’ve had, glad I treated myself to it as a retirement present
