Fires in cars

Post by Vespa » Thu Apr 12, 2018 1:10 pm

Today it was reported that an electric car was burnt out whilst on charge. It was a Volvo.

It's bad enough when it's a mobile phone but a car is another thing entirely. It's lucky for the owner that it was on his drive and not in a garage.

There have been a number of issues with batteries catching fire such as the Samsung phones and Boeing aircraft (including the one that was parked). If you’ve ever had a button battery explode they go with one almighty bang. I am watching with interest to see how it goes with the battery powered vehicles.

BevC, I had a used button cell watch battery in my jeans front pocket to take to the shop to get a replacement and it exploded while I was walking through the shopping centre.

It felt like I had been shot, it burnt a hole through my jeans, and I had a painful burn mark on my leg. Other shoppers must have wondered what was going on when I yelled out and started jumping up and down rubbing my leg.

I make sure I never carry a button cell battery in my pocket now just in case :o

It's now turned out that it didn't just catch fire, it was torched by some evil little swine who was caught doing it on the owner's security camera.
