Vehicle Certification Agency to lose powers after Brexit: AutoExpress

Not sure how this will affect the UK car makers, but i reckon it will increase costs as they have to 'type approve' with all Euro market group.

I would imagine that it would have to be part of the trade deal. If it's not then retaliation can be done both ways with all models from Europe.

Another article linked in the one posted by Bob suggests that could simply result in less variety of cars available for purchase in the UK. If it costs too much to get approval for a relatively low volume model in the UK then the manufacturers may simply not offer it here.

But at the moment it is all speculation, at the end of the day time will tell how things pan out in whatever deals are reached.

I'm sure things will pan out as there's a lot of money at stake on both sides.
I know some of the Japanese and Korean manufacturers are building cars in Europe presumably to assist with EU type approval but there must be separate arrangements for non-EU countries to certify vehicles built in places such as Japan or Korea for sale in the EU?
If we do stay outside it then people like Mercedes, BMW and Audi might feel the pain meeting new UK type approval which we would have to put in place?

Another thought.
(Yes I've had enough coffee so pretty much with it now :) )
What about the "CE" on electrical goods?
Will they withdraw our electrical manufacturers such as Dyson the ability to certify their products to EU standards as well?
Will the Kitemark come back?

This is where the trade deal will have to be agreed to suit both sides. Tit for tat will ensue if they are unwilling to agree a mutual deal on both sides.

I never understand why we can’t agree a standard worldwide - it would save so many headaches.
